The racial makeup of Longview was 72% White Non-Hispanic (non-Latino), 23% African American Non-Hispanic (non-Latino), 0% Native American/Alaskan Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, 11% Asian Pacific Islander*, 2% Hispanic Origin Unknown*, 6% from other races*, and 1% whose race could not be determined on request.* This compares to 84% white non-Hispanic residents according to2010 US Census estimates

Longview was founded in 1853 as the first town in what is now Washington County, and has been a vital part of the region for over two centuries. The town's location made it an important stop on the Oregon Trail, and later became a center for lumber production. In recent years, Longview has experienced a resurgence as a bedroom community for Seattle. Longview's history can be traced back to its founding by John Dutton and his family. Dutton built his home on land that he purchased from Chief Seattle in 1853. Dutton served as mayor of Longview from 1855 to 1861, and was instrumental in developing the town into a major center of commerce and culture. He also donated land to help support local schools, which continues to play an important role in Longview today. The first businesses opened in Longview soon after its founding; including Jardine & Co., which manufactured goods such as shoes and clothing for farmers throughout Northwest America; Wm Fenton & Sons Watchmakers shop; Mrs Bliss’ bakery; Dr Everson’s pharmacy; Stroud-Whitney mercantile store;and many more until finally becoming defunct during prohibition. In 1865, Mayor John Atherton dedicationally proclaimed LongVIEW "the most flourishing city upon this continent" due to its development as an important stop on stagecoach routes between Puget Sound basin cities like Olympia (then called Walla Walla)and Salem (then Walnut Creek). In 1893 Eagle Brewery was established at 5th Avenue South by brothers Amos Naylor & Alfred Eagle who were looking for new markets outside their home state of Missouri where they operated breweries since 1867/8 when brother Augustus Naylor founded Centralia Brewing Company near Topeka Kansas .The brothers moved to TacomaWA after getting word about newly organized Puget Sound brewing industry there – but only lasted one year before being forced out by Brewpub Act legislation (1894) banning monopolies within beer manufacturing industries
The town of Longview was founded in 1879 by James Bowie and his wife, Sarah. It became a city in 1907.
