Longview is a town in the Washington Territory, United States. It was established on July 20, 1847, by land grant to James A. Long and others. The population was 2,462 at the 2010 census. The first European settlers in what is now Longview were French Canadians who arrived from Montreal in 1792. They built log cabins and began developing the area around present-day Longview into a small farming community with some lumbering and cattle ranching operations. By 1847, many of these pioneer families had moved away as farmsteads became more common in the region. In 1848, George Nisbet donated 640 acres (247 hectares) of land to the United States Government for use as a military reservation known as Fort Vancouver Island (later renamed Mount Rainier National Park). This donation included part of present-day Longview. In 1850, Congress approved an act granting all of King County to Washington State; this made Longview part of the new county. In 1861, following Ulysses S. Grant’s successful campaign for President on November 4th, Longview’s post office was established at its current location on First Avenue SW after being relocated from nearby Everett due to flooding during that year’s season of winter storms. The first mail service from Seattle arrived at Fort Vancouver Island via boat on December 12th; it took until February 1st for mail to be delivered by horse and wagon across mud flats miles long between Elliott Bay and Puget Sound! On January 10th 1870, when Oregon became a state under the Provisional Constitution, it included most of what is now King County except for parts of Bellevue and Tacoma counties which would become counties within Washington State several years later when Oregon withdrew from Federal jurisdiction altogether! At this time much of what is now Longview lay within what is today Thurston County; however because Thurston had been granted lands adjacent to Whatcom Lake by Governor Isaac Stevens in 1851 he retained title to those lands until they were conveyed to King County as part of his share inucksation with Hires & McIntosh . When Thurston withdrew from Federal jurisdiction his title reverted back to Stevens & Hires . In 1893 local resident John Dever added about two hundred acres (90 hectares) east side of Second Avenue southward extending into what are now Pioneer Square before selling it back home again some years later! On October 15th 1898 WWI veteran Leroy Jenson donated 5 acres (20 hectares) northeast corner lot #2 along Third Avenue NW towards Union Station just east of Interstate 5 – this lot has since been replaced by Safeway Supercenter! After WWI ended there wasn’t any need or want for such an expansive tract so development commenced primarily along Third Ave NE where lots went up quickly including Fred Meyer Beer Store across street – Safeway opened there also followed soon afterwards another big store IKEA ! All these stores brought jobs and more people started moving into town!. With Chinook City annexing much larger chunk northward including rural areas around Olympia Fields Reservoir creating even more space demand for agricultural land around here farms could no longer keep up wit increasing populations so multiple rounds o cotton picking began occurring causing dust storms each summer leading many people out en masse leaving town completely barren during dry spells called “the Dust Bowl” 1932–1935 although recent research suggests that not all residents left permanently during those times

After the war ended, Longview declined somewhat due to poultry production becoming more important than manufacturing after new housing developments cropped up around it. However, much newer industrial development has since arisen in its vicinity such as Apple Valley Learning Solutions which opened in 2003 and occupies an entire block between Third Avenue South and First Avenue North near Interstate 5th Street NW - one of only two large educational institutions within a radius of Seattle proper (the other being King High School). In recent years there have been efforts to revive Longview's economy with various projects such as retail development on Third Ave SE adjacent to Renton Airport or redevelopment along First Ave NE including apartments, Steve Jobs Elementary School and plans for an NHL arena that would have included baseball diamonds adjoining CenturyLink Field also reported to be under consideration but no final decisions have yet been made.
Longview was founded by George Long in 1851. It became a town in 1861 and a city in 1907.
