Despite these challenges,Longview continued to grow throughout the 20th century and attained several milestone goals: it became Washington's first city on July 1, 1909; it became an all-white city on November 14, 1949 (the day before Brown v. Board of Education); and it became one of America's fastest-growing cities with a population over 10,000 residents on December 15, 1981 ().
Longview is a small town in the U.S. state of Washington. The population was 6,711 at the 2010 census[1]. It is part of the Yakima County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was formed in 1885 from the merger of two other towns: Longview and Stevens Creek. In 1902, it became an incorporated village when it joined what had been then Yakima County. In 1907, Longview became a city after it annexed portions of Stevens Creek and other nearby villages. In 1925, Longview merged with Wenatchee to form the Wenatchee-Longview City School District which has continued to serve as its governing body ever since. The city reached its current size in 1959 when it annexed much of the eastern side of Winthrop Island.[2] Today, LongVIEW offers a variety of cultural attractions including art galleries, theaters andconcerts as well as hiking trails that connect different parts of the town. There are also several shopping malls located within walking distance of LongVIEW's downtown core where residents can find a variety of local businesses such as restaurants and small stores.
