In 1935, when King County merged with Puget Sound County, Lakewood became an integral part ofSKAGA (South Seattle Housing Authority). This community served as an affordable housing option for African Americans until 1955 when it was closed due to budget cuts by then- mayor Royce Youngquist and his predecessor Ed Murray Sr.. After being closed for many years it reopened under new management in 2013 before closing again due to poor economic conditions late last year Lakewood has seen some major changes over the years: In 1991 it was named one of America's Most Diverse Towns by Forbes; MULTI-STUDIO production began here in 1998; Northgate Mall opened in 2002; Middlefield Hills developed into an affluent neighborhood just south of downtown; HomeTown Brewery opened up nearby in 2016 and continues to produce craft beer today; later this year also comes plans for a new movie theater complex - set to be announced soon!

Lakewood is a town in the U.S. state of Washington, located about 10 miles east of Seattle and about 15 miles south of Vancouver. The population was 7,058 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1892 by pioneers from Tacoma and Olympia. Lakewood's first settlers were refugees from Santiam County, Oregon who had fled the unsuccessful gold rush there in 1848-49; they arrived on horse drawn wagons and built log cabins on a small pond near present-day Central Avenue. In 1892, pioneer Daniel Prentice bought 107 acres (41 ha) of land northeast of town to create a new village site; he named it Lakewood after his home town in Tasmania, Australia. The original village consisted of just 10 buildings: two stores, one blacksmith shop, one harness shop, three homes (two with orchards), and a schoolhouse/khaki storeroom/cabinette used as an hotel during World War I until 1914 when it burned down. Today only oneBuilding remnant remains standing: the old lakefront restaurant which opened its doors on July 1st 1922 with $2 per person for dinner service! In 1951, Lakewood became an incorporated municipality with a population of 706 people; it adopted its current name in 1957 when it annexed part of the city of Des Moines due to growing competition from that community for jobs within the newly formed municipality boundaries. In recent years Lakewood has seen growth as both a bedroom community for Seattleites commuting into the City University District and as an affluent commuter center for rural residents traveling to downtown Seattle or Bellevue for shopping or dining experiences not possible within easy driving distance elsewhere in King County.
