Lakewood, Washington has a long and rich gun history. The city was founded in 1853 by settlers who were looking for a farmstead to build on. Gun owners in the city have been mentioned in local newspapers dating back to at least 1854. During World War II, the Lakewood Armory became one of the largest firearms supply stores in the Northwest. It was also home to the first law enforcement training school in Puget Sound. In 1951, the armory was sold and turned into a library branch. In 1995, gun owner rights were affirmed when Mayor Jack Evans announced that all handguns must be registered with city hall no matter how old they are. This made Lakewood one of the first cities in Washington state to pass such an ordinance.
Lakewood is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 28,696 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area and forms the eastern border of Bellevue. The first people to live in what is now Lakewood were indigenous peoples who hunted and fished on the nearby Puget Sound. The town was platted in 1851 by John Eaton as part of a land grant to his brother-in-law, George Vancouver. Eaton named it after his home town of Lakenheath, England. By 1870, many small businesses had been established around the main square near what is now Yesler Way; these included a millinery shop and several hotels which became known as "The Lakes". In 1892, Lakewood voters passed a resolution thanking President William McKinley for granting them annexation into King County. On February 22, 1893, the city's first fire department was organized with three trucks and two men from Tacoma; this department would later be supplemented with five more trucks and eight officers in 1927. In 1895, lakefront property between Yesler Way and First Avenue was developed into an exclusive golf course called "The Lakes", one of only a few courses open to residents outside of downtown Seattle at that time. During World War I (1914–18), there were frequent military encampments in adjacent woods due to the proximity of naval shipyards on Puget Sound Naval Shipyard on Elliott Bay; most notably USS Tacoma (BB-66). Some munitions used during World War I were stored on site until 1945 when they were moved ashore to Everett Naval Shipyard for decommissioning purposes. On July 14th 1922 popular vote passed by referendum creating Trout Lake Park within city limits (a park today) as an evening recreation spot for all ages along shoreline east of Yesler Way Lakewood experienced rapid growth following its annexation into King County in 1893; Growth stalled during Prohibition but picked up again following repeal followed by prohibition enforcement leading to an increase in crime rates throughout much of Seattle during this time period During this period also white flight began moving westward starting with students attending Yakima Valley High School before expanding along Northshore Drive eventually reaching Issaquah where they founded their own community some 90 miles away from their original homes

In 1829, Clearwater purchased 640 acres along the Spokane River from Chief Joseph Salishtacwetl for $10 per acre (based on current values). In 1862, Clearwater donated land to build an industrial school system that would serve local farmers and miners. Thanks to this donation and others over time, Lakewood quickly emerged as one of Eastern Washington’s leading towns. By 1870, it had outgrown its original small town size and had begun to develop into a bustling commercial center with multiple businesses lining Main Street adjacent to banks and stores built around large yards where people could sell their products fresh or frozen “caught” from upstream rivers or lakeside streams (later known as “lakefront property”). Thanks also to increased trade along Interstate 5 outside of Seattle – which crossed through east-central Spokane – residents began commuting into downtown each day for employment opportunities all upriver including working on white man-owned mills such as those operated by General Mills; Western Electric Company; Northern Pacific Railway; Seattle Gas Light & Coke Company; Tacoma Glass Company; Puget Sound Cannery Company; Bend Iron Workshops (now part of Alcoa); Des Moines Coal Mining Company (now Vale) ;and other companies located within easy reach via streetcar or bus lines running north-south down Market Street downtown between First Avenue SW/NW corner Commercial Boulevard NW/SE corner First Avenue SW/NW corner Branch Avenue NE/SW corner Bellevue Avenue NE/SW corner Beacon Hill Road . After years of rapid growth across several sectors including retail business opportunity annexation by other nearby jurisdictions resulting in an estimated population increase exceeding 100%, City Council voted unanimously on August 2nd 1889 when Mayor Denton Dickson submitted his motion proposing incorporation under then State law No 692 creating Parkland Heights Township Named after Mrs J real estate developer Wm H Kirkpatrick who resided east side lot 5 south side street just west side creek railroad tracks
