Lakewood is a census-designated place in El Centro County, California, United States. The population was 11,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego–Tijuana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Lakewood" comes from two words: "lake" and woodyard. The first settlers in what is now El Centro County were farmers who found land on the dried up body of Lake Humboldt near present-day Lakeside Park. They named their new settlement after Humboldt's watercourse, which they saw as an oasis in an otherwise thirsty region. In 1868, Wm J. Kingdon built a wagon road east to Misawa through what is now Lakewood to bring goods and passengers to Puget Sound; he renamed the road "Kingdon Road." In 1872, John Smeaton erected a toll bridge over Clearwater Creek between his farmstead at Clearwater and Smeaton's store at Stevenson Ranch (now known as Crystal Springs), just south of today's intersection of State Route 163 and US 101/US 95A (then called SR 163). This bridge became known as the Smeaton Toll Bridge because it carried traffic on both sides of SR 163 until its replacement by the current span in 1937. Spencer Baird purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) northeast of present-day Lakewood for $1 million in 1902 from George Prentice Richardson Sr., brother of railroad mogul George Prentice Richardson Jr.. Baird planned to build a lakeside resort along Mexico Creek immediately west of his property but never got started due to financial reversals that followed World War I. He sold his property in 1920 to Harry Kappenhoffer for $3 million. Kappenhoffer also developed other areas around town including Southridge Shopping Center and Northridge Shopping Center which are still operative today with major retailers such as Sears Holding Corporation, Macy's Department Stores Inc., JCPenney Inc., Nordstrom Rack & Rolland and Bed Bath & Beyond Corporation among others within their respective anchor stores'. There have been several attempts at developing or acquiring land around town since 1920; however none have resulted in any definitive progress or announced plans for development since then apart from some scattered sporadic light industrial activity taking place off-campus primarily near SR 163 and Garey Way while several large homebuilders have unsuccessfully tried eminent domain proceedings against various parcels located within town limits only for no gain or loss ever materializing beyond public scrutiny during these proceedings typically lasting anywhere from one day up until adjournment pending further discovery/commentary by interested parties representing impacted landowners/property owners having legal representation.) The remaining portions surrounding present day downtown include much more residential development with high density housing developments / Villages starting ups throughout 2010 onwards mainly centered north / central downwind neighborhoods away from Interstate 5 freeway access aka 'Downtown Eastside' thought there may be some implications neighbouring properties could potentially benefit if certain redevelopmentaka'vexploited greenfield sites adjacent thereto via increased commercial activity $$ Located contiguous with Palomar Airport less than 2 miles north

Lakewood, Washington is a small town located in the Yakima Valley of south-central Washington. The population was 5,924 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town first appeared on maps in 1859 as an unincorporated community called Park City. In 1865, it became the town of Lakewood and was named for John Fenton Lake who had donated land to the town. The first post office was established in Lakewood on July 1, 1865. By 1870, the population had grown to over 100 and a new school was built. A sawmill and gristmill were also established in this time period. In 1885, when Tacoma gained city status, Lakewood became Tacoma's second largest city after Seattle. On January 1, 1889, Tacoma annexed what remained of Lakewood into its limits making it an even smaller village with a total population of 3 people (.99% of Tacoma's population). A new school building was constructed in 1911 and Again by 1915 there were more than 100 residents living in Lakeshore Avenue and Park Lane which is now known as Town Hall Road Northward until 1937 when all residents moved out onto their own parcels due to economic development within Wenatchee County In 1938 during World War II much of Lakeshore Avenue between Town Hall Road Northward and I-5 Boulevard was destroyed by bombing raids from Japanese forces during fighting near Yakima River Bridge . All but about 10 feet or 4 feet of road lay completely obliterated .. most likely Army bombers used local farming properties as targets
