On July 1, 1917, Spokane Township lost all its land to Yakima County when that county was created from portions of Yakima and Snohomish Counties. On December 9th 1954 President Dwight D Eisenhower signed Executive Order 13426 which ordered all public works projects within 50 miles (80 km) of any military installation be carried out with local consent only if those projects did not conflict with military use or operations. As a result, construction began on an interstate highway called I-90 through Spokane Valley and much of what is now Lake Stevens was included in that project including Buffalo Road and other important transportation routes connecting Tacoma and Vancouver Island with Puget Sound The bridge over Buffalo Road became known as Interstate 90 Bridge No. 4 following its opening; this particular span replaced an older bridge built during World War II that also crossed Buffalo Road but had been destroyed by fire

Lake Stevens was founded by the Colville people in 1792. The area now includes the town of Stevens and portions of Maple Valley, Centralia, and Everett. The region was first inhabited by Tsalaluktes tribe of indigenous Americans. In 1853, Lake Stevens became a separate Grant County when it was created from parts of what is now Spokane County.
