In 1795, he named rushes on which he built his first house near where modern Arlington Heights stands today as Alki Point Rushmore National Monument. In 1853, Congress passed an act creating Puget Sound country within Oregon Territory which included parts of what are now Seattle and Tacoma County. The act also designated King's River as the eastern border of Tacoma County. When Oregon became a United States state in 1959, King's River became part of Seattle County while Lake Stevens remained within Pierce County until it was annexed into Seattle City limits in 1965. Today, Lake Stevens continues to be one of Washington's most popular attractions for boating and fishing with over two thousand acres (1 thousand hectares) available for swimming, fishing, hunting/fishing or hiking/bikingix facilities covering all sorts of waters from crystal clear depths to turbid stretches with submerged logsbottom habitats rich in fish populations The history surrounding Lake Stevens goes back many centuries before Europeans even set foot on this area we know today as Washington State In fact there were Native American groups living here long before Europeans invaded One such group that lived here for some time were the Makah people These people used their skills in basketry making and shellfish gathering to help them survive during times when food wasn't easy to find outside their community After fleeing their homeland during Spanish America’s Inquisition they settled alongshore using canoes made from willow branches stripped down by sun exposure Some time later they migrated upriver under British rule where they continued trading until finally being forced out by US soldiers during World War II Upon their expulsion they moved inland towards present day Olympia where they continue living until contact with white people again began

The first white man to set foot on the shores of Lake Stevens was Captain George Vancouver in 1792. The area now known as Washington was part of the Oregon Country until 1851 when it became part of the United States. In 1861, during the American Civil War, General Ulysses S. Grant ordered General Joseph Hooker to move his army from Vicksburg, Mississippi to within sight of Tacoma, Washington in order to relieve pressure on Union forces at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. On July 12, 1861, General Grant's force reached Tacoma and began disembarking their troops. After days of marching and traveling through harsh weather conditions they arrived at Seattle on July 20th.
