The city annexed most of neighboring Shoreline Village in 1956 because it felt that much needed to be done to make Lake Forest Park an inviting destination for residents within its borders: such annexation included providing access roads and park facilities; adding new lakes; increasing lake capacity; improving walking and biking paths; creating visitor centers throughout the city; developing retail corridors around key science institutions such as University Microfilms Laboratory (UML), Space Needle Museum/Pioneer Square Mall (SNM),and King County Library System's Emerald Hill Branch library (EB). In March 2006 Mayor Ed Murray announced his intention to reduce spending on transportation by $660 million through attrition from government departments across all jurisdictions within his administration over four years beginning July 1st 2006. This would include savings from eliminating duplicate services or closures at police stations across the county due to budget restrictions placed upon him by Governor Christine Gregoire. On July 26th2006 City Council voted 7-0 not only did they pass out vouchers for free parking at many local businesses but also raised funds towards this goal through raffles which netted over $200K dollars so far! This money will now go towards expanding bike lanes downtown as well as expanding water taxi service into downtown areas making it easier for people to get around without having to transfer back & forth between various modes
