Lake Forest Park is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 25,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The site for what would become Lake Forest Park was chosen by Governor John Denny on May 10, 1889 as the location for a new county seat and first village in King County. On July 1, 1892, the name of the village changed to Lake Forest Park to reflect its importance as a place where people could enjoy nature and be close to downtownSeattle. The name change didn't take effect until after incorporation on November 3 of that year by an act of the King County Legislature. The first post office in Lake Forest Park opened in 1893. In 1896, lumber magnate James Jardine donated land for a golf course and Village Hall were built on it. By 1916, there were fifteen businesses located in and around Lake Forest Park with over 2 thousand residents within one mile (3 km). In 1916-1917 an effort was made to bring baseball back to America after World War I; this led to the founding of Seattle's first professional independent league team called Tacoma Stars (later renamed Seahawks) playing their home games at nearby Husky Stadium from 1917-1920. In 1920-1921 local real estate developer Harry Weese developed what would become known as "the corner lot" or "Weeseville." This tract included land near Lakeside Drive and Aurora Avenue NE which became home to many educational institutions including Evergreen State College and Mountlake Terrace High School before becoming commercial property developers' Valhalla just north of Interstate 5 traveling east from Everett Road between Northwest 72nd Street NW and Northeast 116th Street NE across I-5 then south onto Aurora Avenue NE becoming one of Seattle's most prominent neighborhoods Northgate until it was destroyed by fire on December 22nd 1978 along with much of neighboring North Seattle creating today's University District centered around Royden Place SW which sports UW student athletes while residential areas such as Greenwood Hills continue eastward past Royden Place into Ballard neighborhood with several high rise buildings among them One building still standing: CenturyLink Field—now known as Safeco Field—which hosted games beginning in 1962including two American Leagues teams (the Mariners played their last game at Safeco Field on April 15th 1996) before transitioning into an open field stadium used mostly for soccer since 2000 From 1922 through 1949 Lake Forest Park had its own school district; however due to changing demographics including more suburban growth adjacent to park boundaries schools were integrated into King County public school systems starting in 1951 when all but three elementary schools became part of South Central School District #9A which operated out of Mercer Island until 1993 when it merged with South Shore School District #2.; also during this period expanding shopping districts such as Safeway started developing along Aurora Avenue NE;[1] Finally opening shoplifting charges against juveniles tripled effective September 1984 effective retroactivelyJanuary 1985 resultingingin increased prosecutions throughout city followed by increasing social awareness campaigns Recent annexation has resulted in little if any development occurring west of Interstate 5 despite promises from Mayor Jenny Durkan
