In 2002, Everett decided to annex parts of Snohomish Township which includes much of Lake Forest Park so that they could join together with Bellevue in forming the Emerald City metropolitan area – making Everett’s annexation possible without breaking up Lakeshore Village or any other neighborhoods within Snohomish Township. Today, Lake Forest Park is home to over twenty thousand people and offers plenty of activities for everyone from nature lovers to professionals looking for a place to relax after work. There are also several businesses located in town that offer services such as dining out or shopping at local stores. Some popular attractions include President George Washington University's Mount Vernon Campus (a short distance from town), Issaquah National Wildlife Refuge & Interpretive Center (which features exhibits on waterfowl and salmon life), Cedar Point amusement park (home to both roller coasters and water rides), and Aquarium of Puget Sound (containing fish species never seen before).
