Lake Forest Park is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 62,521 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in King County after Seattle and is the home of Seattle Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright and actress Anna Kendrick. The name comes from a piece of land that once included parts of what is now Lake Forest Park as well as other communities on the east side of Lake Union. The first permanent settler in what would become Lake Forest Park was John Young who arrived in 1853 with his family. By 1870, most settlers had left for various reasons – many because of gold discoveries along the Columbia River valley to the west. In 1875, Henry Acworth purchased 640 acres (2 km²) from George Simpson near what is now downtown Seattle for $1,000 cash and named it Acworth Park after himself and his wife Anna Simonsen Acworth (1847-1925). Upon purchase, he also donated some trees to be used for public parkland. In 1876 a small group of men founded the first municipal government within King County when they elected James Denny as mayor and Allen Waller as recorder; both men were Mayors until their deaths in 1889.. The first City Council meeting took place on October 9th, 1876 with Jens Christensen chaired by Mayor Denny; Wm Halsey served as Deputy Mayor during this time frame.. On January 1st Entered into force: An Ordinance providing for organization of cities within King county Samuel Currie became First Clerk on January 1st 1886 . On November 14th 1888 A resolution was passed authorizing Townships 2nd Ward to form a Municipal Corporation under its own governance . This motion failed at first but later passed by vote 7-0 .....On December 5th 1888 a Municipal corporation charter was issued by Superintendent Geo Fenton which called for incorporation of all village or town limits within Kaneohe Township boundaries .. Thereafter incorporation proceeded without any further incident until February 25th 1893 when an order came down from Sheriff Arthur Ladd prohibiting incorporations beyond those authorized by charter.. On March 3rd 1893 an ordinance establishing Boundaries between Incorporation areas was passed giving rise to much confusion among residents .....In 1895 City Hall moved from its original location on SW corner High Street and Main Street to what is currently located across NE corner Raymond Way from Safeway… In 1907 City Hall burned down leaving only pieces still standing today including part of the clock tower that can be seen from Interstate 5
Lake Forest Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washington state, United States. The population was 15,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The name "Lake Forest Park" may be derived from a local Indian word meaning "place of forest." A post office called "Forest Park" was established in 1887, and was renamed to its current name in 1911. The community developed around two large public parks: Lake Forest Park and Roosevelt Lake Park. In 1922, the first high school in the area opened for students in the community. In 1961, Lake Forest Park School District merged with Seattle Public Schools to form Seattle School District No. 2. In 1990, King County purchased all of Roosevelt Lake Park from the city of Seattle for $1 million. The park has since been home to several golf courses as well as an amusement park and water park catering to families and children alike. According to the 2010 US Census report, 15,827 people live in Lake Forest Park CDP including 4346 households with individuals and 7603 households with couple families; 5362 households with one or more kids under 18 years old; 3297 households without any kids under 18 years old; 9663 housing units consisting only of apartments – owner occupied or rented – such as condos or townhomes ; 8247 single family homes ; 1 motels ; 337 businesses providing services within this CDP including restaurants, cafes/bars/nightlife venues etc.; 6 churches
