Lake Forest Park, located in the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area, is a natural community with over 111 miles of shoreline. The community was founded on April 20, 1892 by George Pullen and his wife Harriet. The land that would become Lake Forest Park was donated to the city of Seattle by Mr. Pullen in 1887. On May 1, 1889, Seattle became an incorporated town with the name of Lakewood. However, because the city had no right to develop or sell property within the park boundaries, it annexed much of Lake Forest Park east of First Avenue between Snohomish and Mercer Streets on September 6th 1899. The first public golf course in Seattle was built at Snoqualmie Mesa in 1886 by Captain John Smeaton as a training ground for troops during the Spanish-American War. In 1893, Captain Smeaton sold land at present day 52nd Street and Greenwood Avenue to Wm. Ladd for $1,000 In 1902 Mr. Pullen donated about 50 acres northwest of downtown to be used as a permanent center for social services for children living on various blocks west of University Way and south of Pine Street near Southlake Boulevard (now Union Station). This area would eventually become known as Northside because it lay north of Interstate 5 along I-5's routing through downtown Seattle when it was developed. The first school in Northside opened its doors on October 12th 1903 with nine students from Harper Elementary School which sat on a piece of property donated by MrsPullen which included today’s block bounded by NE 45th St., NW Market St., SW 98th Ave., SE 192d Ave., and today’s NW 56th St.. After opening enrollment increased rapidly so classes were moved from Harper to three other schools before finally housed in what is nowNorthwest Middle School building which opened December 3rd 1913 . Northwest High School followed suit March 15th 1915 . These schools continued until annexation into Everett on February 28TH 1922 . At this time all but one school - Harper - closed while Everett High School continued operations due primarily to population growth around these schools (Everett also annexing Ballard shortly afterwards). It should be noted that not all properties within today’s boundaries were annexed during this time frame; some properties such as Harbor Ridge Golf Course were acquired after 1908 when Northside largely consisted only of open fields without buildings or serviceable infrastructure
Lake Forest Park is a village in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,872 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The village was founded in 1892 by John A. MacDonald and his wife Anna McNaught MacDonald as a small farmstead on the shores of Lake Forest which they named after their daughter Fanny (Fannie) MacDonald who had been born in 1848 in Kingston Township, Ontario, Canada to Scottish parents. Lake Forest Park grew slowly until it was incorporated as a Village on April 20, 1912 As a Village, the Village had no budget and relied largely upon voluntary contributions from its citizens. In 1916-17 Lake Forest Park submitted an application for incorporation into the City of Seattle but received no answer because of World War I which interrupted communication betweenSeattle and Lake Forest Park. On July 1st 1920 when America entered World War II both villages were annexed by Seattle with only about 10 residents remaining within Lake Forest Park while over 100 residents applied for annexation to Seattle. The annexation did not include any land within present day King County; all that remained within Lake forest Park was annexed into the new city ward boundaries on November 6th 1922 . In 1951 Mayor Harry Kelly proposed that the Village rename itself "Lakewood" after Mayor Denny O'Brien's father who also lived there during prohibition days but this proposal met with resistance due to resident's perception that "Lakewood" would be another name for "Seattle". Eventually on January 14th 1957 Mayor Robert Moses announced plans to change Lakewood's name to honor then Congressman Julius Rosenwald who had donated $5 million towards building what is now known as CenturyLink Field in Seahawks Stadium across from Puyallup Bayou
