The area now known as Lake Forest Park was first settled by farmers and fishermen in the late 1800s. In 1907, the state of Washington designated it as a park for residents of Seattle and Tacoma. In 1928, the city of Seattle annexed what today is part of Lake Forest Park. Today, Lake Forest Park has over 20 thousand residents and covers an area of . The community has a mix of older homes and newer developments that include apartment complexes, shopping centers, golf courses, schools, and a variety of businesses. There are also several parks within walking distance including Bennington Park which offers tennis courts and playgrounds for children; Burke Pavilion which houses a variety of cultural events; Garfield Lakeside where people can sunbathe or fish; and Northgate Woods which includes a nature preserve with oak trees and deciduous forest.
