The Town of Lake Forest Park was organized on December 4th, 1847. The first post office in town was established on January 6th, 1850. By 1860, the population ofLake Forest Park had grown to over 100 residents. In 1865, a sawmill was built in town and began operating. In 1868, a general store and post office were built adjoining the mill. In 1870-71, two churches were built: one called “The Methodist” and another called “Stroud & McCloskey”. A jail was also built in 1870-71 and operated until it burned down in 1903. In 1876-77, a flour mill was constructed and started operations. It remained in operation until it burned down in 1901. In 1886-87, a lumberyard and sawmill were construction near the current location of First Baptist Church (now known as Missionary Baptist). These buildings remain standing today along with several other early settlers’ homes which are also preserved for historical purposes including those belonging to Samuel Morse (1807-1893) who is considered to be one of Seattle’s most prominent citizens; Harry Chandler (1862-1937), founder and first president of Boeing; his son Cyrus Kapp Chandler (1900-1979); John Fenton (born c 1865), an entrepreneur who founded Cascade Paper Products;and his wife Olive Aldrich Fenton(befor 1915). In 1906-07, a school building replaced the old courthouse which served as both township hall and schoolhouse from 1889 to 1909 when it burned down due to lightning damage. A new school building was erected between 1912 and 1915 at a cost of $615 by contractor Craycroft & Company Incorporated under contract with Commissioners Robert Jansen [Draper], Wm Hite [Harrison]and Charles Murchison [Fulton]. Under instruction from Commissioner Murchisonruction began on October 15th 1916 – just three months after Columbine School Shootings occurred . . . This new school building still stands today across from First Presbyterian Church on NW 75th Ave., adjacent to Safeway shopping center

I have been living in Lake Forest Park for 6 years now and I absolutely love it! I love that there is always something happening near by - whether it be music festivals or farmer's markets! The people here are so friendly and welcoming which makes making new friends so easy!

During World War II, many people who lived in Lake Forest Park enlisted in the military or served with agencies such as Navy Seals and Coast Guard units stationed there. Many of these people are buried at nearby Mountlake Terrace National Cemetery which is also home to American soldiers buried during World War II including General George Smedley Butler who commanded U.S. forces during WWII's Battle of Midway; Admiral Chester Nimitz; Lieutenant Commander Harry S Truman; Rear Admiral Hyman Rickover and Rear Admiral Cecil Wainwright all serving aboard USS Yorktown duringthe attack on Pearl Harbor). Lake Forest Park experienced numerous changes throughout its history including annexation by Bellevue in 1959, growth due to suburban development around it beginning in the 1970s until now when it has continued to grow rapidly as a bedroom community for Seattleites living within easy access of both Downtown Seattle and CenturyLink Field sports stadiums
