Lake Forest Park is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of Seattle. The first people to live in Lake Forest Park were Native Americans who hunted and fished in the area as early as 1792. The land that now makes up the city was donated by John Sellers in 1881 to be used for a public park. In 1886, work began on what would become Seattle's first park and it was called Sellers Park after its founder. In 1907, the park became known as Lake Forest Park after Minneapolis-based philanthropist and developer George Hearst donated $5 million to create it. In 1936, Lake Forest Park annexed neighboring Royster Heights which had been part of Bellevue since 1899. As Bellevue had no municipal water or sewer system, annexation created a new watershed that served both cities together until 1959 when they seceded from Bellevue and formed their own municipality with their own water supply and sewers. In 1974, voters approved an initiative to rename Lake Forest Park "Seattle" after then- Mayorichusse's request for recognition for his hometown of Seattle following the merger of King County and Puget Sound counties into one government entity under then-Governor Jay Inslee
