Lake Forest Park, Washington is a census-designated place in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 4,873 at the 2010 census. Lake Forest Park is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Lake Forest Park were the Dalles and their families who settled there in 1855 afterhdying on the Columbia River. They came from Oregon and were farmers. In 1895, two brothers named George and Edward Haggerty purchased 640 acres (248 ha) of land east of Seattle called "The Slough" from John Fenton for $10 per acre. The house that still stands in Northgate Drive near where Highway 5 intersects Interstate 5 was built by these brothers as a rustic farmhouse known as "Oak Hill". It served as home to Haggerty until his death in 1935. In 1916, William Sennett bought 320 acres (120 ha) of land northwest of Seattle called "Thornwood" from Jethro Lundquist for $1 per acre. This became Sennett's ranch which he used to raise horses and cows until he sold it to Harry Weadock in 1924 for $5 per acre. Weadock ran it as a sheep farm until he moved it west to Nurr Ridge Road in 1930 when he developed it into an agricultural subdivision known as Thornwood Farms which had 8 homesites with fences and roads running through them while they grew crops and raised chickens on 10 additional sites scattered around the perimeter. In 1951, Daniel Boone Hodges donated 736 acres (269 ha) of forested country between Lakes Sammamish and Olympia Fields south of Tacoma to the City of Tacoma for development into an urban area known as Redmond Township which would include much of what is now Lake Forest Park including most of its water supply coming from Freeman Dam on Sammamish River about 12 miles north-northeast of Redmond township limits along State Route 9W which forms boundary between Redmond Township and Thurston County . The donation included timberlands covering more than half a million acres (100 km²).
