The name Lake Forest Park was chosen because it sounded like a place where forested hills could be seen from a distance. In 1924, the townsite was annexed by Bellevue and became part of that city's limits. In 1937, its boundaries were changed to encompass most of Everett Township including parts of the communities of Maple Plain and Cottonwood Heights. In 1959, Bellevue-Everett merged with other cities in Puget Sound to form Seattle and the annexation of Lake Forest Park was discontinued as part of that merger. The population growth associated with Seattle's expansion has led to more people moving into Lake Forest Park since annexation began; at present, it has about twice as many residents as Bellevue did when annexations began. Many people who live near Lakeside Drive or Northgate Boulevard (two miles east of town) either work for nearby businesses or are students attending Shoreline High School or South Kingstown Elementary School located just outside town limits on Everett Street NW., which leads directly into downtown Bellevue proper

Lake Forest Park is a small city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,816 at the 2010 census. The first humans to live in what is now Lake Forest Park were Native Americans who called it "Nahkomikshtliwá" meaning "place of many waters." In 1851, Major General George A. Custer and his Seventh Cavalry passed through the area on their way from Portland, Oregon to fight Mexico City during the Mexican-American War. They ordered one of their men named John Stroud to stop at Nahkomikshtliwá for water supplies while they rested between raids into Mexican territory. The town was platted in 1853 by members of the Snohomish Tribe as a place where they could gather water fowl during winter months before traveling northward to hunting grounds in British Columbia or Canada. The name likely came about because there were many trees near the present site of Lakeforest Park that produced fruit trees (neli). The town's location on a small stream made it an ideal place for farming and horticulture, which continued until after World War II when air conditioning became popular. In 1916, Lake Forest Park was organized as a city with its own government separate from that of Snohomish Tribal Nation which bordered it on three sides. In 1968, Firefighters Memorial Stadium opened as the home field for Lake Forest Park High School - later renamed Northlake High School - football team; also then known as "The Red Devils". At that time only men played football at high school level in Washington State; women began playing professional football beginning in 1978 under new rules set by then-Governor Dino Rossi following passage of Title IX legislation protecting girls' sports opportunities at all levels including high school athletics.
