In 1862, Lacey became the capital of Washington Territory and was renamed Seattle after President James K. Polk’s visit to the area. The city continued to grow rapidly throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s as new factories were built along Seattle’s waterfront. By 1920, Lacey had reached its peak population with over 100,000 residents. However, rapid economic development and World War II caused many of Seattle’s warehouses and businesses to close or be converted into apartments or other commercial uses. As result, Laceysville lost much of its significance within the city until it regained it following annexation by Seattle in 1962.

The population of Lacey was 9,717 at the 2010 census. Lacey began as an agricultural community with Farms 1 and 2 on the banks of the Little Cascades River. In 1927, a group of merchants led by Mrs. Florence Aikens bought out the farmers and erected a two-story white school building which still stands today. Classes commenced on September 15th, 1927 and were held in temporary classrooms until a new brick building could be built. This building served as Lacey's high school until it burned down in 1959. It was rebuilt and thoroughly modernized under superintendent Harry Pritchard Jr., who made it one of Washington's finest high schools for boys. The racial makeup of Lacey has always been diverse with residents from all over Western Washington contributing to its cultural heritage including American Indian (Chinook), Japanese American (Kitsilano), Filipino American (Tagalog/Pagadian), Black English speaking African Americans (Caucasian) and Hispanic Americans (Spanish). Today many students attend Lacey High School because they have strong interest in science or technology fields or because they want to continue their education after leaving school; these are some examples of why Lacey remains an important community to its citizens. The economy in rural areas such as Lacey often relies upon agriculture but there are also several businesses that provide services such as lumbering, fishing, manufacturing and retail sales along with government contracting opportunities that can provide jobs for locals when necessary; these types of businesses keep families sustainably employed while also providing economic stability for communities across WAUSAU County . Lacey is a small town in the state of Washington, located on the Olympic Peninsula. The population was 3,829 at the 2010 census. Lacey is one of only a few towns in Washington that are still officially part of the Columbia River valley. The other two are Yakima and Des Moines. Lacey is home to Lacey High School and has been served by Lacey-Olympia School District since 1907. Lacey was founded by Alexander Heartman in 1872 as an agricultural village on what is now Umatilla Creek Road east of present day Lacey. In 1882, the village became known as "Heartman's Landing" because Alexander Heartman had purchased some land there for $4 per acre (equivalent to $40 at current prices). In 1904, Lacea Township was organized from section 5 of neighboring Des Moines Township with a population of 9 residents. On February 10, 1907, the school district was created when parts of Des Moines and Yakima Townships were merged into it. On October 15th 1912, part of present day Prairie du Chien County was added to the school district; this area included most of what is now eastern Oregon County and much of what is now western Wyoming County. The first high school classes moved to new buildings in 1915 when Cheney High School opened its doors after spending many years serving students at local farms and ranches across North Dakota Territory (now Minnesota). The first classes actually met on August 14th 1915 when five students from Cheney Parish attended a meeting chaired by Mr. Wm Gentry who acted as Superintendent for both schools until his death in 1916 In 1927-28 Chevy Chase Middle School replaced Cheney High School which closed due to budget cuts made during President Coolidge's Great Depression era . In 1932-33 Friendship Chapel Elementary opened its doors which continue serve today as Denny Middle School . during World War II enrollment increased due to military training activities conducted in nearby Fort Lewis On September 2nd 1944l General Douglas MacArthur ordered all United States Army troops and civilians living within 1 mile or less surrounding any Japanese held territory be evacuated without warning or compensation thereby creating Operation Coronet under Secretary Stimson During these days no person could remain within 1000 feet radiusbonus if they could bring their dog with them
