Lacey, Washington is a town in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,057 at the 2010 census. Lacey is part of the Wenatchee–Tacoma metropolitan area. The Town of Lacey was founded on February 1, 1887 byorney and settler George Withers as a small farming community located on the east side of Lake Chelan. On July 15, 1907, the Town of Lacey became an incorporated village with a population of 375. On December 13, 1920, the Town of Lacey became an unincorporated community after it was annexed by Wenatchee. Lacey has been served by Wenatchee Borough since 1906 and by Pierce County since 1912. The first post office in Lacey was established on February 1, 1887; it closed on October 6th due to lack of mail traffic. The last post office in Lacey was discontinued on November 30th, 1978 due to low mail volume from the town's 2 churches and 1 school which had all replaced electric service with telephones around that time. On May 7th 1922 saw the inauguration of Mayor John Pemberton who had earlier been elected as county treasurer in 1916 when county government consolidated into one organization under newly appointed county Superintendent Marshall Sibley Jr.. In 1928 Mayor Pemberton donated land for a new public school which would house both schools until 1949 when they were moved to their current location across from City Hall (now known as City Park). In 1933-1934 Mayor James Ketchum made improvements to main street including widening it two feet at each end so that traffic could flow more freely through town center; this addition created what is now called "Ketchum Street". During World War II many businesses closed because they were either unable or unwilling to contribute money or supplies needed for war effort; however most residents managed to keep their homes while some lost everything including their homes and farms although some did manage to rebuild thanks to donations from friends and family members.
