Lacey, Washington is a small town in King County, Washington. The population was 2,859 at the 2010 census. Lacey is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first guns in Lacey were pistols made by Smith & Wesson in 1885. In 1916, Lacey had its first rifle range and shooting exhibition. The next year, the town voted to prohibit handguns. In 1946, Lacey became an incorporated city and passed gun control laws that became effective on July 1 of that year. At the time it was one of just a few towns in King County with such restrictive ordinances. Gun control laws have been tightened since then and Lacey has seen some high-profile shootings including the 1996 murder of luminaries Isadore "Ned" Goldman and his wife Alice Cohn at their home; and the 2007 death of John Ewing after being shot by police officers outside his business in Asotin Valley Park
