In 1940, the US military activated the First National Guard Armory in Kirkland Washington to store and useWeapon flashlights. As a result of this activation, inventor George Eastman developed a new type of weapon flashlight that could be used as an emergency light. This new type of weapon flashlight had five Cree Incandescent LED bulbs inside of it instead of just one. This emergency light became known as the "Kirkland Flashlight" and it was first produced by Eastman Manufacturing Company in 1941. In 1942, production ceased due to World War II but subsequent models were made with both Cree LED's and incandescent lights. Despite its popularity among law enforcement officers and military personnel during World War II, Weapon flashlights didn't become popular until after the war ended. This is likely because they were not suited for civilian use at that time (they were only meant for military use). However, they've since become quite popular again thanks to their versatility and ability to replace standard car headlights or porch lights when needed

In 1892, John Denny founded Denny's Dusty Boy Brewery here which remains one of the longest running breweries in America today with over 120 years continuous operation! In 1917, Boeing opened its first factory here (now Boeing Field) which helped give rise to today's aerospace industry including Microsoft Flight Simulator and many more! Today there are many small businesses and farms that call Kirkland home such as Stonington Farms & Winery (one of Northwest’s largest familyowned wineries), antique shops/museums/galleries etc., making it an incredibly diverse community full of creativity and opportunity!

Kirkland was founded by Captain George Vancouver on December 13, 1792 as the town of Colville on the eastern side of Puget Sound. The site of present-day Kirkland had been a small island in the Strait of Juan de Fuca since at least 9500 BC. The first European to visit the area was Juan de Fuca, who landed there in 1592 during his exploration of North America. In 1801, John Day established a trading post and ferry service between Colville and Olympia. On July 5, 1825, Colville was renamed Kirkland after Governor David Douglas. In 1881, Captains John A. Stroud and William Bainbridge established a whaling station at nearby Discovery Bay. They were followed by other captains until 1909 when it closed due to lack of interest from industry. In 1916, Seattle became an independent city and Kirkland became part of that city's limits. The commercial whaling industry resumed around 1930 with the opening of the first modern shipbuildingyard in Puget Sound outside Seattle
