Kirkland, Washington is a small town in the Yakima Valley of WA. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-King County region. The town was founded in 1879 by Captain John Kirkland and his family as a farm and lumber settlement on the east side of Coulee Dam. With its growing population, Kirkland began to develop into an agricultural center with fruit orchards, dairy production, and logging operations. In 1931, Kirkland became home to the first high school in Wenatchee County when school District No. 1 opened its doors there.
