The first permanent residents of what is now Kent were Indians who had been living there for several years before white men arrived in 1821. The town was founded on July 6, 1827 by merchants and farmers from Wenatchee and Stevensville. The first post office was established in 1828 and the first store was built in 1829. The early growth of Kent was due to its strategic location between Wenatchee and Stevensville on the Skeena River and to its close proximity to timberlands that supplied lumber for buildings and other objects of export. In 1850, a wagon road called Benton Road ran through the town from Wenatchee to Stevensville; this helped increase trade with those two communities as well as with other surrounding towns and villages. During the late 19th century, economic development grew out of increased transportation needs associated with growing populations outside of Wenatchee and Stevensville as well as advances in manufacturing techniques which allowed for more efficient production within those communities than had been possible earlier. With these changes came an increasing need for goods produced withinKent itself as well as demand for workers in nearby industries such as meatpacking, auto parts manufacturing, papermaking, fisheries/fishing (especially salmon), logging (particularly logging on Kootenai National Forest), food processing (particularly fruits/veggies), constructions materials (such as bricklayers) and service sectors including trucking services necessary for people commuting between those larger cities or rural areas along Interstate 5 or Interstate 84
Kent is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,498 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first Europeans to sight Kent were Spanish explorers who passed through the area on their way to visit Vancouver Island in 1792. On July 4, 1846, a group of Indian traders and farmers led by Lewis and Clark set out from Mt. Vernon on horseback for what would be the first official exploration of what is now Washington state. They met no resistance but did encounter several Native American tribes including the Chehalis tribe which they called "the cannibals." When they reached Auburn Hills they found an Hudson's Bay Company post there and continued their journey south until they reached Olympia on August 10th where they left horses and supplies behind before continuing downriver to Wenatchee Valley where they camped for two days before continuing upriver again to meet another company post at Golden Lake on September 2nd. From hereon out it was fur trading territory with posts established at various points along the river route: Ephrata (1848), Kenmore (1851), Wanamaker (1853), Poulsbo (1855), Tessella (1856). On February 14th, 1857, George Akeley founded The University of Washington in Seattle after traveling across country searching for a site for a school that could provide opportunities for students from all over America. On April 6th the first classes began at UW with 165 students enrolled in three classrooms located on Capitol Hill within blocks of each other – one unique moment in history! In 1962 The University acquired land adjacent to campus that forms today's Campus Library building; this important addition helped support rising student numbers while also adding much needed space for research institutions like Business School and Chemistry Department as well as existing buildings on Capitol Hill. The town of Kentaldale was incorporated into downtownSeattle on January 1st 1898 following a vote by residents of both towns Congregationalist Church being built next door became known as First Congregationalist Parish Center–later First Presbyterian Church which still stands today as one side street east of Main Street leads back up towards Main Street passing under Yesler Way heading towards Westlake Park) . After annexation by Seattle city it lost its water supply so services were discontinued but continues functioning currently run by Washington State Utility Authority
