When he died without children or heirs apparent, his wife Elizabeth took over his estate while she continued to live in Annapolis until her death in 1945; thereafter Kent reverted back to its original name until it was anglicized again in 1957 when it joined neighboring Lyndenwood as one of seven towns within the new King County municipality

During these years (1943-1945)Kent experienced an unprecedented level of destruction caused by incendiary bombing raids conducted by American forces in supportof Japan’s war effort against America which left entire blocks burning for days on end and destroyed numerous businesses including several stores located near Pioneer Square which still stand today as part of downtown Kent’s commercial district. After World War II ended, Kents reconstruction proceeded at a more leisurely pace with many new frame buildings being erected before the late 1960s when grunge began taking hold throughout much Northwest culture suchas giving rise to terms like "downtown" or "the south side." This change coincided with an increasein attention paid to historical preservationism among urbanites who saw old buildings as symbolsof Bungalow Belt cultural values rather than liabilities deserving replacement or renovation.$5 million was spent on renovations following a citizens survey undertaken in 1970 which called forrestoration/modification of nearly everything within 100 feet Ofan original structure dating backto1850 including churches, schools and residences.- By 1993 all but one building had been renovated or replaced while others remained largely unaltered save for some minor repainting
