The first settlers in Kent were the Cascades Indians who moved to the area in 1853. The town was named after Commodore John A. Kent of the United States Coast Guard. In 1871, a post office was established and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1898, a schoolhouse and school district were organized and operated by local residents. In 1912, an agricultural fair was held at which various products from Kent were exhibited. In 1922, a new courthouse and jail were built on Indian Hill Road southeast of the town center. In 1927-28, an irrigation system was constructed for use by farmers near the town limits and also included water towers for use by citizenscockroaches as well as other small items such as pumpkins that have since been removed or replaced by more modern structures In 1969-1970, an asphalt plant operated by Pacific Highway Associates began operations in downtown Kent which continues to be used today A state park called Mount Vernon National Recreation Area opened up around central Kent in 1978 . This provided much needed recreational opportunities for people living within easy reach of centralKent including swimming/sailing/diving/camping/hunting/wheelchair accessible hiking trails The popular community soccer game “Boys vs Girls” has been played here continuously since its inception back when there weren’t any professional teams (or even anyone interested) And finally most recently (and controversially), construction started on a brand new high school campus just outside of centralKent – causing quite some excitement among many locals who thought their favorite old high school would still be open years down the line? At any rate! things are going great here folks! good thing we don’t live next to Central High now because that would really mess up our lives

Kent, Washington is a town in central Washington County, located on the Kitsap Peninsula. The population was 9,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The first permanent Indian settlement in what is now Kent was established by young men from British Columbia in 1851 as Fort Vancouver. After years of construction and intermittent occupancy, the fort burned down in 1854 while soldiers were sleeping and never reopened; it is believed to be the only military post ever destroyed by Native Americans. In 1861, when King George III announced his intention to annex all of Oregon into the United States, settlers from eastern Washington Territory began moving westward towards what would become Kent. By 1865, most of this new population had arrived and founded a village called Atwater on tip of land that had been donated by Captain John Stevens for $1 per acre (about $ today). The first school was built in 1870 but closed due to lack of students; a second building was erected in 1875 and became known as the School House until 1906 when it burned down again. The Village gradually grew more prosperous through agricultural production and fishing until World War II when a munitions plant opened nearby which led to increased development around town including an airport (1946), shopping malls (1990s), and now an unsuccessful attempt at developing an inland port (2000s). Today, Kent remains primarily residential with some light industrial uses; there has never been any commercial activity outside of small businesses within walking distance of any residents or schools. The local economy depends largely on agriculture which continues to be its mainstay although some recent developments have included development near the local library which provides free wi-fi access for those using laptops or e-readers during library hours.
The first European to visit Kent, Washington was Captain John Jacob Astor in 1847. He and his party of thirteen passed through the area on their way from Seattle to Olympia.
