The early 1900s saw an increase of violence and crime in Kent due to gang activity and intermarriage between different gangs which increased competition for turf on local streets. Gun proprietors responded by increasing security measures around their properties including install of gun locks, fences, garbage cans with straps to secure firearms inside., installation of alarm systems, and hiring bodyguards or personal security guards who patrolled their neighborhoods at all times night or during daytime hours (or both). Kent, Washington is a small town located in the Yakima Valley of western Washington. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Yakima County government and is served by the Kent School District. The first Europeans to visit what is now Kent were traders coming down the Snake River in search of trade goods. In 1853, surveyor George Wright named it after his friend and mentor, James Kentsworth. Kent was platted in 1855 by John Bidwell with a view to developing it into an agricultural center for local farmers. The town began to grow rapidly when railroads were built through that area in the late 1800s. By 1900, there were over 1,000 people living in Kenttown and surrounding communities. A large jail was built on Main Street in 1907 and used until 1966 when it was replaced by a new courthouse which still stands today. In 1990, construction began on what would become known as Pioneer High School; it opened in 1991 and remains the only high school in Kenttown today. That same year saw significant progress made to revitalize downtown Kenttown with the installation of a new water system and streetlights; this included completion of one of Seattle's largest public works projects at that time. In 2003, efforts surfaced to rename downtown Kenttown after King County executive Royce Lemberg who had championed redevelopment there since he took office two years earlier. However, due to popular opposition from residents political leadership decided instead against renaming anything after anyone during an election year- something they had done before without issue.. Today, downtown Kenttown remains vibrant with retail businesses and restaurants alongsidings traditional Federal-era buildings including the old jail building where pioneer high school now stands as well as several other historic structures dating back to its early days while still providing access to modern amenities such as hospitals & shopping malls nearby

The name "Kent" comes from a small hill in the town center that overlooks Puget Sound. The first permanent settler in what would become Kent was Edwin Farnsworth, who built a log cabin on the hill in 1847. The town was named for Captain George Kent of HMS Indefatigable (1794-1846), an American officer during the Mexican War who became famous for his Battle of Corrientes, which resulted in Mexico losing its independence and becoming part of America. The first post office was established in 1851, and by 1865 it had developed into a small village with a school and store. In 1872–73 Lieutenant Colonel John J. Hilliard surveyed and laid out present-day Kent on three hundred acres of land he purchased from David Furnas; at this time there were only four houses and one set of railsroads near central downtown core). In 1870–71 Portland attorney Arthur Purdy organized what would become Queen Anne's County to serve as an interim center between Tacoma and Olympia while those cities rebuilt after devastating fires two years earlier; when both Tacomaands Olympia were chosen as new capitals in 1888, Purdy donated their land to form Kent along with neighboring Arlington Heights In 1902 local developer C S Hendrickson founded Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company on land comprising about one-seventh of present-day Kent—the largest telephone company ever headquartered outside North America On July 16th 1948 residents voted to secede from King County due to frustration over high taxes and lack of services including schools, police/fire protection, etc.; however this vote did not result in formal secession until December 2nd 1949 when Governor George Ball made it official by issuing a proclamation calling for all counties withinKing County to unite into one entity called "Washington State". On January 1st 1950 the first day of school began for students attending public schools within newly formed Washington State; since then Kent has been an overwhelmingly white municipality with no blacks or Native Americans
In 1871, the town of Kent was founded by John L. Kent and his wife, Emma. The town was named after the English county of Kent, which at that time included much of modern-day Washington State. The first settlers in the town were farmers and their families who built homes near the river. In 1916, the community was renamed to honor General George Custer, who died in battle in 1876.
