When the first Europeans set foot in what is now Kent, Washington in 1792 they were following theroute of the Columbia River. The river was an important trade route between Oregon and California. In 1811, the U.S. Army established Fort Vancouver on an bluff overlooking the river east of present day Olympia. The fort served as a supply depot for army units moving westward during the Mexican-American War and later during the Civil War. In 1865, federal troops under General George Custer attacked an Indian encampment at Washakie Creek near present day Olympia. A group of Native Americans attempted to flee but were intercepted by Custer and his unit, “The Last Stand” which included some 60 enlisted men and 5 cavalry troopers from the 7th Cavalry Regiment led by Captain John Mclntyre. After a almost three-hour battle that resulted in several dead and wounded on both sides, most of the Indians retreated across Salmon River into Canada. Two individuals - Chief Seattle and his interpreter Topeka - are credited with saving many lives by leading a charge against Custer's column which was then surrounded and destroyed by British forces retreating back across Canada border before reaching their ultimate destination, Seattle’s home country of Tacoma

Kent, Washington is a small town in the state of Washington located about 25 miles northwest of Seattle. The population was 3,955 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue-Everett, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name means "the land where the water flows." Kent's history can be traced back to 1853 when settlers first arrived in what is now Kent County. The first permanent home was built on the site of present day downtown and it served as a trading post until the early 1870s when commercial development began. In 1902, a post office was established in what is now downtown and it remained in operation until 1959. By 1910, most of what is now downtown had been developed and by 1920, trade and commerce had become an important part of life in Kent. In 1933, construction began on Kingdome Stadium which would serve as the home field for both the University of Washington Huskies football team and local professional teams such as Portland Beavers (now called Tacoma Rainiers) and Seattle Metros (now called Sounders). The stadium would eventually be destroyed by fire but it has since been reconstructed multiple times including once after being donated to surrounding communities by Microsoft founder Paul Allen. In recent years, there have been several attempts to bring light rail service to Kent; however no progress has been made beyond planning stages despite numerous requests from residents and businesses. Despite these obstacles, many people continue to live and work in downtown Kent because that is where services such as grocery stores, hospitals, schools and other essential functions are located. There are currently no plans for any major new development or redevelopment within walking distance of either Kingdome Stadium or downtown although there are some ongoing efforts to develop former industrial sites into business districts with heavy retail presence.

Kent, Washington is a small town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,857 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-Tacoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Kent was George Canby in 1851. He and his family built a log cabin on the site of present day downtown Kent and started a grist mill that operated until 1853. The mill became an agricultural center with tannery, weaving and dyeing operations being established soon after. The early years of the 20th century were difficult for Kent as it struggled to keep up with advances in technology and transportation. However, through hard work and innovation by locals, including entrepreneur Wiley Martin, Kent began to emerge as one of the leading communities in Thurston County during this time period In 1907 when Washburn College opened its doors for studentship in Wenatchee, local citizens financing the school organized a campaign to raise money for construction costs which ultimately resulted in statehood for Washburn University (now Western Washington University). A group of local businessmen donated land to build Washburn's first building on Main Street which became campus headquarters; this donation helped jumpstart campus growth which continued until 1959 when it moved into its present location across from the library on Third Avenue North.Throughout these years there were several other businesses set up around Campus: A clothing store/factory by Hines Bros., a bakery/cafeteria by Mrs. John Sneathsmith (now owned by Pacific Northwest Restaurant Associates), beauty parlors/spas by Mrs. Florence Condon (later purchased by J &J Coffee), among others During World War II many jobs were created within Campus due to shortages elsewhere throughout Thurston County due to military mobilization; however most manufacturing activity occurred within the Tannery Building located adjacent to Campus Road where leather was produced primarily during WWII In 1951 when much of downtown Kent was destroyed in an arson attack some new development took place with properties along Fourth Avenue North becoming known as "The Blade" because of their prominence at that time Consequently much redevelopment has taken place since then with more traditional retail storefronts moving into vacancies while higher end condos continue growing rapidly adjacent to main streets near Campus Road providing additional housing options for residents . In recent years some new businesses have relocated back onto Main Street such as Pizzeria Rocco's which reopened after closure last year following decades-long vacancy
