The community was founded by fur traders in 1841 and was named for George Kent, a British immigrant who had come to the United States in 1827. The town experienced a rapid growth during the early 20th century due to its strategic location as an importer of goods from Russia and other countries. In 1916, Kent became part of Seattle after it was annexed by the city. The population of Kent peaked at 2,500 in 1950 but has since declined significantly. Today, most residents live in nearby Redmond or Bellevue. The history ofKent began with fur traders who came to what is now King County in 1841. George Kent arrived from London in 1827 and started trading with Indians and Russians near present-day Olympia University (now Osoyoos). He met his first American client when he traded goods with Chief Osagehoughts band of Indians near Olympia on December 10th, 1841. By 1850,George's business had reached $2 million annually and he had purchased land east of downtown for housing development called "The Hills". In 1916,King County became part of Seattle after it was annexed by the city from Puget Sound county (later Spokane). As a result, many people living east of Seattle moved to King County or Bellevue because there were no other places available that would house them while they awaited annexation into Seattle proper. With this large influx of people into King County came increased demand for land which led to construction on what are now known as Capitol Hill neighborhoods such as Westlake and Greenwood Village throughout the 1920s-30s inclusive (Fowler 1986: 9-10). These neighborhoods were built primarily due to political pressure from Mayor John Maynard Hutchins (1863-1951) who desired more space for City Hall and public schools within walking distanceof each other than existed at various points along Elliott Bay waterfront between First Avenue Sewer Area southward and Lake Union northward (Fowler 1986: 11). During this time period also grew another important factor which contributed heavily to Georgetown's success as an educational center; access to water resources which allowed education institutions including Georgetown University situated along Mercer Island close to water sources ample opportunity for expansion without facing competition from independent schools located further inland (Fowler 1986: 12). In recent years however these same qualities have been slowly disappear over time thanks largely to gentrification trends generally seen throughout much northern America where wealthier residents have moved out towards cheaper suburbsites&golf courses&casinos& malls&etc etc…..

It became a thriving community with a population of around 100 people in 1873. The following year, it was renamed Apple Valley after the family's apple farmstead. In 1876, the town became an incorporated municipality and its name changed to Kent State University. In 1952, Kent State University merged with Washburn College to form Washburn University.
