The first church was built in 1855 and services were conducted outdoors until 1865 when a brick building became available at what is today known as First Congregational Church Road. In 1873 work began on developing land east of present day First Congregational Church Road which would become the nucleus for what would become Kennewick later that year In 1914, while attending a reunion at Anacapa Island off Puget Sound, then part of Vancouver Island, President Woodrow Wilson made his famous speech "A New Deal for America" which called for increased government spending to help those who had suffered during World War I such as veterans and their dependents During World War II many people left Kennewick due to fear shortages within the war-time economy However with nearby Boeing aircraft production facilities development continued well into postwar years with businesses like UPS moving into town Since 2000 much investment has gone into expanding education opportunities within town limits with new high school buildings being constructed along with a middle school and Elementary School . Development also continues underway surrounding downtown with plans being made for an upper stories apartment complex , multiple retail stores and several parks including one named after WWI veteran USMC Sgt Leland Stanford Young

In 1902, Attorney General George Wickersham filed a case against John Dillinger after he shot and killed two police officers at a train station in Chicago. Dillinger had been prohibited by state law from owning firearms but had obtained several handguns through straw purchases. Wickersham’s suit resulted in Dillinger being sentenced to life imprisonment without parole plus 10 years on probation before his release could be effected based on the terms of his earlier pardon from President McKinley. In 1934, John Lennon was shot and killed by Yoko Ono outside her Dakota apartment complex in New York City while she was pregnant with their child Lennon-McCartney. This event led to the now well-known song “I Shot Johnny” which references Lennon’s death and Ono’s subsequent kidnapping and ransom demand for $5 million dollars (equivalent today to over $100 million). A year later, two gunmen infiltrated Beatles Recording Studio at Abbey Road Studios and opened fire on band members Brian Epstein (vocals), George Harrison (guitar), Ringo Starr (bass) and John Lennon (rhythm guitar). One gunman died; one survived only because he impulsively grabbed a revolver that lay idle next to him while he reloaded it. Police arrived moments laterand arrested both gunmen before they could harm anyone else inside the studio complex; this event is considered one of London’s most famous unsolved crimes ever.) In 1967, three students at California State University Chico were shot dead during an incident that became known as “the San Bernardino shootings” after gunfire erupted inside a dormitory suite where they were holed up following an altercation between rival groups of students at the university campus center near San Bernardino County Airport outside Los Angeles County. The suspects–two young men who appeared African American–were apprehended shortly afterward after shooting nine people including four schoolgirls across three classrooms within sight of multiple airport security cameras before fleeing into nearby woods
