At this time, most land within modern-day Kitsap County lay within Yakima territory including much of what is today’s town of Kennewick Heights as well as smaller villages such as Garden Grove to the east and north while much easternmost current day Everett had been part of British Columbia until its annexation by Washington in 1871 along with rural areas to the west including present day Olympia
Kennewick was founded by the Yakima tribe in 1853. The town became a district of the city of Seattle in 1871, and it was annexed by Seattle in 1898.
