The Kelso Shooting Targets Company was founded in 1907 by W. H. Harbison and A. S. Cummings, two of the first shooters in the area. The company changed its name to the Kelso Rifle and Pistol Club in 1914, and then to the Kelso Shooting Targets Corporation in 1919. In 1925, the corporation began manufacturing their own handguns and rifles, which remain today a key part of the company’s product line. The Kelso Shooting Targets Corporation was bought out by American Firearms Corporation in 1987, who continued to produce firearms under that name until 1994 when they merged with Smith & Wesson pistols division (now Glock) to form American Firearms Corporation/Glock Incorporated.

In 1916, a large dam was built on the Milk River by Union Pacific Railroad which changed how water access to the town became important. The local economy depends heavily on agriculture, which accounts for about 60% of all income output in Kelso. NAFTA attracted many jobs to Kelso throughout the 1990s and 2000s when production increased due to changes in trade policies between Canada and Mexico

Kelso is a small town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Kelso-Wenatchee National Forest. The first white person to inhabit Kelso was George H. Kelso, who arrived in 1877. He and his family built a log cabin on the present site of their current home in 1878. In 1881, they bought land from the Canadian Pacific Railway and developed it into a farming community with five homes and thirty-six acres ( twenty-four hectares). In 1907, Kelso post office opened; its first name was Wenatchee until 1919 when it changed to Kelso because of local opposition to using Yakima for the name Wenatchee. In 1925, test pilot Clarence "Clarence" Laughlin flew his F4U Corsair from Seattle to Tacoma over Kelso Lakes while demonstrating new American aviation technology; he piloted it at night so as not to wake up residents in Wenatchee who were sleeping soundly through the day. In 1936, during World War II, many Japanese Americans living in Thurston County were interned at Topaz Army Camp due to their affiliation with Japan's Imperial Japanese Army (JIRA). After the war ended, most of these Internment camps were closed down but some remain today including Topaz Army Camp on Snohomish County property which is open only for private visits. In 1946 Kamehameha Schools opened an elementary school in Weltona which served students from Kelso until 1959 when that school merged with Topaz School District #1 which had been established in 1944 by then State Superintendent of Public Instruction Wallace Hogue after Kamehameha Schools failed to secure funding for an elementary school within its own district despite having submitted plans for such an establishment eight years earlier! The original location of Kamehameha Schools’ Weltona Elementary School can still be found on First Avenue South inside the old Topaz High School building across First Street from Phillips Arena! Today’s Weltona Middle School offers grades 6-8 while also serving as both a high school and vocational/technical center! According to 2000 Census data,[3] there are now fewer than 500 people living inkelson village proper[2] as opposed to more than 2200 people counted according to 1990 Census data.[1] Although much has changed since 1990--most notably following passage of King Butch Otter'sLocal Government Reorganization Act Amendments - kelson village retains its designation as one of Thurston County's oldest villages dating back at least 1882"[5],[6],[7],[8], nevertheless certain key aspects have not seen change: Residents continue fishing and bird watching along Witham Creek (); farmers operate sheep and cows ; businesses include a general store/gas station [+]
On July 4, 1876, Kelso became the final town in Washington Territory to be annexed by the United States. The annexation was a result of the passage of the Organic Act of 1871 which granted land east of the Columbia River to America.
