It wasn't long before they had built several other outhouses within earshot of their new home - evidence that this small settlement was quickly developing into something more than just a Scandinavian farming village. By 1886, the Kelsos had acquired some farmland nearby and were starting to grow crops; however, when they lost their farmstead during a fire in 1907 it didn't stop them from continuing to live there until his death in 1959. Today, Kelso remains one of Washington's most important communities - its residents are responsible for many aspects of local life including economic development and public services such as education and healthcare.
