Kelso is a small town in the Yakima Valley of Washington. The population was 1,851 at the 2000 census. Kelso is located just outside of Tacoma on State Route 97 and is bordered by the towns of Moses Lake to the west and Centralia to the east. The name "Kelso" means ' Place where Salmon Run flows'. The first settler in what is now Kelso was John Sweetman in 1855. He built a log cabin on a stream that flows through town. The first post office in town was established in 1859, and it remained open until 1898 when it moved to Tacoma. The town has been known for its logging industry since before there were any settlements hereabouts. In 1865, an unknown logger named John Young set up his own sawmill in what became Kelso from timber he had gathered along the banks of the Salmon Run River. This mill continued operation until 1966 when it closed due to lack of demand from farming operations throughout Washington state as well as other states which had introduced new mills unable to compete with those old ones due to technological advances over that time period. In 1978, Denny's Pub & Grill opened up shop in what would become known as Old Town Kelso, serving local residents and tourists alike since 1978 until 2003 when it closed down after years of neglect by management who decided not to renew lease because they felt their presence did notfit into the changing atmosphere around them that included online ordering being popular among visitors at that time (the restaurant still serves food online). As a result, much-needed shopping space was lost within minutes walking distance of one's house or workplace; however current businesses like Gamberos Pizza offer more contemporary dining options within easy reach should visitors want something more upscale than fast food these days! Today’s Kelso began growing rapidly following construction of Interstate 5 about 9 miles south east from town limits (just across from today’s Gamberos Pizza) during early 1990s edging out nearby Moses Lake for future development leadership fronting I-5 - this led directly onto Main Street becoming one block long complete with CenturyLink Center anchored north side opposite key intersection - services for everyone quickly developing all around including several thousand plus vehicle parking spaces available year round! Today there are only remnants left standing behind walls & foundations original homesbuilt prior 1930s have long ago been razed leaving many families living alone today most unusual view looking down on main street thru large windows once occupied by bakery 3 blocks away

Today, Fort Lewis AFB is home to many different types of aircraft including Boeing 727s and Airbus A340s.
