Kelso is a small town in the state of Washington located on the north side of the Cascade Mountains. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. Kelso is part of Thurston County and is bordered by Walla Walla to the east, Nonamek to the south, and Olympia to the west. The first settlers in Kelso were Swedish immigrants who arrived in 1851. They established a small farmstead and started school in 1852. In 1870, Kelso became a village with a post office and five stores. By 1920, there were thirteen businesses in Kelso with a total population of 3,000 people. The population grew rapidly after World War II when employment opportunities increased due to military service and agriculture; however, growth slowed during the late 1990s because of economic recession and an increase in crime. In 2000, Kelso received approval from voters to become an incorporated town with its own government. The incorporation process was completed two years later and residents voted overwhelmingly to rename themselves "Kelso." The new name was approved by referendum from 2003-2006; however, each successive vote failed until finally succeeding on November 4th, 2006 when citizens passed a resolution endorsing kelson's official designation as an incorporated town under Washington law. Today, Kelso has four schools: one public senior high school (grades 9-12), one private junior high school (grades 7-8), one church (Anglican), and one park which includes baseball diamonds for both boys and girls teams as well as playgrounds for children ages six through twelve months old. There are also three restaurants/cafes serving local cuisine - Pogues Irish Pub & Grill (whose namesake restaurant served beer brewed only here since 1978), Joe's Cafe & Brewery (owner/operator since 1984) - as well as two convenience stores that provide basic groceries such as gasoline and food supplies for residents' families: Family Mart Supermarket ($) - open seven days per week including Saturday morning hours - adjacent to Church Street Baptist Church - second business on right off main street across from Post Office The Village Hall is home to cultural events such as art exhibits throughout summer months along with weekly community meetings that include issues facing their community such as budget deficits or improving infrastructure Additionally there are several churches within walking distance including First Presbyterian Church ($14 per adult day pass) which serves breakfast daily along with Letcher United Methodist Church ($11 per person) which offers worship services every day except Sunday morning; Stroud Unitarian Universalist congregation ($7); Holy Cross Catholic Church ($) near post office provides communion services Sunday mornings; Blessed Sacrament Parish ($) just south of Village Hall offers parishioners chapels for confessionMonday through Friday evenings begins at 6pm followed by Mass starting at 7pm

Kelso, Washington was founded in 1853 as a town in the Yakima Valley by George Kelso and his brother-in-law Nicholas Atchison. The town grew rapidly, becoming an important center for agriculture and logging. By 1910, Kelso had a population of 6,000 people. In 1921, the town became the capital of Washington state when it was created from portions of Olympia and Wenatchee. The city has since grown to over 100,000 residents. The history of Kelso is based largely on its agricultural roots. After years of growth, Kelso began toependent on outside resources such as timber and irrigation water. This led to conflict with other parts of the state over control of these resources. Kelso also struggled with racial tension until after World War II when white separatists moved into the town and started riots that lasted for several days. Despite these struggles, Kelso has made significant strides in recent decades. In 2002, Keloso became one of only two towns in Washington State to be designated a Historic Community by the National Park Service. This designation provides financial assistance and access to cultural programs such as events at local museums and historical tours that focus on the town’s heritage
Kelso is a town in Clark County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It lies on the south bank of the Yakima River just east of its confluence with the Columbia River. The first permanent settler in Kelso was Capt. George Vancouver who arrived in 1792 and named his new land "Kelso". He erected a small log cabin near today's Kelso Ferry Landing. In 1805, John Cowlitz and his band of Yakima Indians attacked and looted Captain Vancouver's cabin, resulting in Vancouver taking revenge by naming Kettle Falls after Cowlitz's tribe. In 1827, Jervis Wheatley founded what would become Seattle and named it after his hometown of Kelso, Scotland. wheatley owned more than half of all agricultural land within Seattle limits at that time; he also developed KeyArena (now CenturyLink Field) which became one of Seattle’s most popular tourist destinations. In 1881, when the railroad reached Kelso through Leavenworth Junction it decided to stay there instead of moving on to Tacoma as had been planned originally. The townspeople voted to annex nearby Sequim because they saw an opportunity to develop business opportunities shared by both towns while keeping their distinctive character intact- this annexation never happened though Sequim has grown increasingly annexed over time due to its similarity in culture and demographics to Kelso/Leavenworth Junction). A post office was established at Kelso in 1907 but closed six years later because no mail ever got to Kelsoville from there! In 1917 the name changed back to Kettle Falls after being recommended by Postmaster General Amos Kendall for local use only due to lack of another available name for an incorporated town located on both sides of a river across from Puget Sound!
