Kelso is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. Kelso is bordered by the cities of Seattle and Issaquah on the east and south, Bothell on the north, and Redmond on the west. The Kelso area has been inhabited since before there were any settlements in what is now King County. The first Europeans to visit this location were fur traders in 1805-06 who named it Spring Bayou after their spring source near present-day Issaquah. In 1827, James McGee mapmarked Kelso as "Creek" which name may have been derived from Creekin (a Chinook word meaning "to travel") or someone's place of birth. In 1854, A Hovland settler named John Armstrong platted what would become Kelso on land that he had purchased from the head chief of a tribe of Osage Indians living along Spring Bayou. The town site was chosen because it was convenient for wagon transportation to nearby crops grown during the gold rush era in central Puget Sound. Although most residents came directly from Seattle or Issaquah for work during that time period, some families also built homes northeast of town along Maple Creek until about 1900 when they sold them back to local citizens for $2 per acre lot balance against mortgage interest payments alone! The first school in town opened in 1865 as a one room schoolhouse located at Seventh Street and Swenzer Avenue NE #1 while another building known as "Belle Isle School" opened its doors just east of downtown soon thereafter! In 1896 an addition to Belle Isle School became home to Kipps Elementary School where students continued attending even though that building burned down in 1898! (Today's Kipps Elementary School can be found across Redmond Road from First Baptist Church.) A new courthouse was completed in 1902 with plans drawn up by architect George Gilbert Smithson and construction began shortly thereafter! It served as both court house and jail until 1907 when it burned down!! When Kelso incorporated as a municipality following passage of law under then-Governor Corbin Browne on February 17th 1909 only 8 individuals applied for incorporation including 3 men!!! One application stated: "We hereby request your aid with all possible speed so that our organization may take effect without delay." After much debate between members of the City Council over whether or not to incorporate due process was given less importance than economic issues at first glance; eventually incorporation took place on April 10th 1909 with Mayor Wm Burchfield presiding over elections held two weeks later!!! After almost 5 years hesitation incorporators finally decided "…it would be well if we organized right away so that our concerns might be attended to more promptly…." Despite this delay incorporators felt confident enough about their fledgling city status & decision making processes to hold an election within 2 months – AGAIN!!!!! This proves how important timely decisions are when pursuing municipal incorporation & development…..the future success/failure of any municipality cannot rest upon chance !!

During World War II, Kelso played an important role in military activities in the Pacific theater; its airfield played host to more than 100 missions over Japan during the war. After hostilities ended, much of what remained of the local economy came from Reconstruction Era jobs inthe post-war period such as manufacturing goods for export or providing services such as lawn care or trash collection for people living outside of town limits. However, Kelso slowly recovered during this time and today is home to around 1 500 residents including many retirees from nearbyPortland . The community has experienced significant growth over recent decades; according to 2010 census data (the latest available), average household size is 3 and there are now twelve full-time jobs within 4 miles (6 km) of most homes). Despite these successes however some challenges remain: high housing prices make it difficult for most people to afford single occupancy homes; numerous schools combine forces making learning opportunities challenging for both young children and adults; infrastructure needs continue to be outpaces current funding levels which have led to increased traffic congestion on concurrent arterial streets
