The Kelso Arms Company was founded in 1903 by John A. Kelso and his brother, Alfred J. Kelso. The company became a mass-production firearms manufacturer with its first rifle, the Kelso Model 1902, being produced in 1904. In 1916, the Kelso Rifle Works was established to produce rifles for the military and police forces of Washington State. The factory continued to be active until it closed in 1957. During World War II, the Kelso Arms Company produced rifles for both the United States Army and Navy. In 1956, John A. Kelso passed away and his sons Michael and Don took over ownership of the company. They continued to produce firearms under their father's legacy until 1989 when they sold it to Smith & Wesson Corporation for $2 million dollars cash. From 1989 through 1997, Smith & Wesson Corporation operated the Kelso Arms Factory as a manufacturing plant for handguns and revolvers under their "Upper Receiver" nameplate designations. From 1997 through 2003, Upper Receiver production was shifted from Seattle to Springfield Armory where it continues today as part of S&W's handgun line-up under their "Arsenal" brand designation

The first people to live in Kelso were Native Americans who hunted game and gathered plants and berries on the nearby hills. In 1849, John Fenton built a ferryboat bridge across the Issaquah River which connected Kelso with Tacoma. In 1862, when Puget Sound was opened to navigation by entrepreneur James Kappenhoff, Kelso became an important shipping point because it had access to both sides of the waterway. By 1929, Kelso had become one of Washington's most prosperous towns; its economy relied heavily on agriculture and fishing along with mining operations conducted near Issaquah Gold Mines (now part of University District). However, during World War II Kelsovians developed into some of America's largest war refugees; more than 100% of all male citizens registered with military service within two months after Pearl Harbor.(1) The post-World War II years were difficult for Kelsovians; they experienced heavy economic losses due to changes in federal policy that favored industrial development over rural communities like theirs.albeit few people lost their jobs completely- instead many people lost their businesses because they could no longer compete against larger companiesbased in urban areas."(2) Despite these difficulties though, many residents chose to stay committed to their faith even when times were tough - many joined Religious Orders or started churches themselves while others founded social organizations such as veterans groups or civic clubs.(3) In 1984 local businessman Everett Wohlstadt purchased land adjacent to Issaquah Gold Mines for what would become North High School; he named it after his late wife Althea (née Snively). The school has played an important role in helping Toquia Valley struggling students achieve success since its inception: It has offered educationally gifted children opportunities not available anywhere else in Yelm County.(4) Today North High School offers classes ranging from grades 9-12 as well as adult programs including English as a Second Languageand summer enrichment courses for high school seniors.(5) Today there are more than 350 active churches affiliated with various denominations throughout Washington state- nearly half of whom serve those living within 30 miles of Seattle! These denominations represent every kind imaginable: Protestant Lutheran Episcopal Methodist Baptists Jehovah’s Witnesses Pentecostal Roman Catholics Orthodox Mormons Presbyterian Greyshirts Unitarian Universalist . . . There are also numerous church groups formed specifically around issues affectingkelsovians- such as environmentalism or women’s rights.- making kelsovian Christianity oneofthe strongest traditions left behind among American Christians today!(6)
