When the first Americans arrived in what is now Kelso, Washington in 1853 they were preceded by the Yakutians. The Yakutians had been living in the area for centuries and were known to be expert shotters. When the American settlers arrived, they also brought their own firearms. The first guns that these new arrivals used were handguns and rifles. At first, ammunition was not very common because it was expensive and hard to come by. The Kelso Armory was opened in 1892 by Captain George H. Kelso. The armory served as a place to store and reload firearms, as well as provide training for militia and law enforcement personnel. The complex was closed in 1984 and all its assets were transferred to the Seattle-Tacoma Ammunition Company.
Kelso is a small town in the Yakima Valley of Washington. The population was 4,869 at the 2010 census. It lies on the east side of the Yakima River, about five miles north-west of Seattle and thirteen miles south-east of Tacoma. The first people to live in Kelso were the Puyallup tribe. They arrived from Russia in 1853 and built their first house on what is now Main Street. In 1855, they moved to a farm on present day Northgate Boulevard where they continued to reside until 1880 when they sold their land and moved back to Kelsoville. The first school in Kelso was built in 1887 by Mrs H.H Watson. It served as a school for children up until 1912 when it became an academy for girls named after Mrs John Denny who donated land for it. A new school was built on present day First Avenue in 1922 and held grades K-12 until 1959 when it was replaced by the current building which seats 350 students inside and 100 outside. In 1935, Kelsoville had its own water system which became operational that year with Lake Mead as our source. The next year, we also got our own electric utility which came online that same year named Northwest Electric Company Incorporated (NEC). NEC Provided power both during peak hours during hot summer days like today as well as during winter nights when there was no power available due to weather conditions or emergencies such as fires or floods! Today, Kelso has many businesses including two hospitals; one operating since 1903 called Puget Sound Health System (PSHS) while another opened its doors just last year called KING County Medical Center (KCMC) – making it one of only two general acute care hospitals located within King County! Additionally, Kelsoville contains some very unique businesses such as The Grain Millinery store which is open every day of the week from 9am til 5pm! Besides this store there are three other stores spread around town with four restaurants plus a gasoline station all under one roof! Finally, we have six acres located near downtown that houses our library providing public access to books, movies etc., along with various other activities for kids like soccer games,, basketball court,. .A playgroundnas well as numerous retail outlets including PF Changs Chinese restaurant., Trader Joe's grocery store,. .And finally I could go on but you get my point 🙂 Kelso’s rich history can be traced back over 125 years starting with trading posts established by Russian fur traders working out of Fort Okanogan before moving downriver into what is now Yakima Valley and then onto American soil where settlers began arriving in droves beginning in earnest via ship captains sailing upriver from China between 1861 and 1865 looking for fertile land abounding with resources such as gold and coal potentialities not yet accessible anywhere else on Earth! Settlers quickly realized that this area would make ideal location for a stopover on their journey westward due to its natural geographical features including easy access to both water supplies necessary for farming operations plus excellent lumbering & fishing opportunities; perfect conditions also ripe for colonization by Europeans following an arduous trek across harsh terrain often completing over 20+ miles/day through rugged rainforest terrain requiring horseback riding & walking over icy slopes leading eventually past tall ponderosa pine trees providing essential fuelwood sources essential for early civilization prior to contact with European nations occurred resulting ultimately in waves of Native Americans being pushed out progressively towards what is now known locally as “the Great Lakes region” primarilymainly because these indigenous nations possessed technology & methods different than those used by earlier groups occupying this same area resulting ultimately leading directly contemporary Native Americans living today primarily within Northwestern United States Tribal reservations encompassing partsOf CaliforniaArizonaNew MexicoOklahomaTexas KansasMinnesotaSouth DakotaIowa

The town has since undergone a number of renovations and upgrades, including the construction of a new elementary school and courthouse in 1959. In addition, Kelso has seen increased development thanks to its strategic location withinwinkeloftheColumbiaRiverandits proximity to Seattle. Today, Kelso is an important hub for cultural activity in Washington State and is home to many businesses and organizations including the University of Washington (UW) Seahawks football team.
In 1871, the first white men settled in Kelso. The town grew rapidly and by 1907 had a population of around 100 people. In 1912, Kelso was incorporated as a city. In 1933, Kelso became the capital of Washington state.
