Issaquah is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 8,779 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area. Issaquah is located on the eastern edge of Lake Washington and between Bellevue to the north and Redmond to the south.
The first European settlers in what would become Issaquah were French traders who arrived in 1792 as part of a fur trade expedition led by Pierre de Montrose. The traders named their new settlement after Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, an explorer who had traveled through Canada and Alaska two years earlier. In 1851, Issaquah became part of Puget Sound territory when it was forcibly annexed by Washington from British Columbia.
In 1865, Issaquah School District Number One was created when Tacoma School District No. 3 was merged into Washington State government under statehood during the same year. That district included much of what now makes up King County and portions of Pierce and Snohomish Counties west of I-5 along with most of today's Issaquah east of I-5 along with most all or almost all of today's Auburn Avenue corridor between Mountlake Terrace Boulevard and Pioneer Square neighborhood were within that district until annexation into King County in 1907; this area still includes parts of Tacoma school districts No 2 (Pierce) & 4 (Snohomish).
