Issaquah, Washington is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 43,746 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County and one of the most populous cities in the Puget Sound area. Issaquah is known for its history as a center of industry and science, and its natural resources including waterfowl hunting and fishing opportunities. The city was founded by members of the Susquehanna Tribe in 1851 as part of their land grant from British Columbia. The name Issaquah means "Island over which no wind ever blew." The first permanent settler in what is now Issaquah was Jens Sverre Pedersen who arrived on July 17, 1851 aboard his ship "Titan" from Copenhagen. He built a log cabin on an island in Issaquah Lake that he named Islay after his home country Islay on Scotland's Isle Of Skye. An early newspaper article about Pedersen's arrival noted: "He has come to this beautiful eminence (Issaquah) with but few poor feelings because it contains all that he could hope for." In 1852, John Cranch discovered gold near Mount Rainier while mining claims along the riverbanks around Olympia; this led to a rush of settlers to the area and began construction on what would eventually become Issaquah City Hall. In 1865-1867JCranch constructed two miles (3 km) long aerial tramway between Seattle and Olympia which connected these two towns using power generated by running water turbines offsite from nearby coal mines; this system was also known as Steamboat Junction or simply Tramway Junction because it served both communities like trains stopping at various points en route between Seattle and Olympia via Spokane Valley.) By 1870 there were more than 100 businesses operating out of downtownIssaquah with an estimated payroll of $1 million annually! During World War II much industrial activity took place within Issaquah thanks to government contracts such as Boeing’s production lines for military planes and tanks at Renton Technical College – during which time some 5500 people worked at Boeing plants located throughout King County! After Pearl Harbor many factories closed due to wartime rationing but continued operations through 1945 when they reopened under new management with help from American Recovery Administration funds.; however most production ceased until deindustrialization hit America during the late 1970s although some facilities still remain active today.. The Susquehanna Tribe ceded their remaining land east of Tacoma to become part of King County in 1855 after British Columbia granted them this land grant followinghat Canada had won independence from Great Britain just three years earlier! This occurred despite Ottawa refusing their application citing concerns about their title To lands east Of Tacoma given that they were not indigenous people! A group led by Captain David Dixon organized local farmers into a wagon train called 'the Overland Expedition' which left Aberdeen Creek Ferry on November 16th 1861 bound for Lewis & Clark Stationnearpresentday Pullman, WA where they would buy passage back across Elliott Bayon December 3rd 1861 before continuing northbound through Vancouver IslandtoSeattle! On January 2nd 1862 Dixon’s party reached Stevens Pass northeast of present day Snoqualmie Pass before finally reaching Lewis & Clark Station near modern-day Everett on January 10th 1862! They camped there until February 8th when they rode south past Mount Rainierandjoined up with Major George Vancouver’s army leading Operation Northwind preparatory to Ulysses S Grant’s march against Mexico!!! As you can see from this account significant events happened nearly 150 years ago so it's interesting how much has changed since then!!!"
