Issaquah is located on the southern shore of Lake Washington and it falls within the Seattle–Tacoma-Bellevue Combined Statistical Area. The townsite has been inhabited by Native Americans since before European arrival and was first named Nisqually by Chief Sealth in 1824 after finding evidence of Clallam Bayou in present-day Issaquah Creek. In 1853, General George Custer's troops were stationed here while they engaged the Sioux near Fort Snelling; as a result, many American soldiers were taught to speak Clallam Bayou Indian language before departing for their next assignment. In 1907, Issaquah voters passed an ordinance that granted voting rights to all citizens regardless of race or color. African Americans had not been allowed to vote until after World War II when Congress passed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which made voting rights available to all citizens regardless of race or color from then on. As a result of this change and other advances in civil rights over time, Issaquah has become an increasingly diverse community with residents from around the world living and working here. They named their new settlement Nisqually meaning "place where there are trees" in honor of Chief Sealth who found Clallam Bayou south ofIssaquah Creek while exploring for gold prospecting purposes early in 1824 A number of properties were purchased including what is now downtown Issaquah Mall and some adjacent property eastward along Interstate 5 just north of Safeco Field (then known as Pacific Park) between Ballard Avenue SE and 20th Street SE (now Pioneer Place). At that time most businesses along I-5 were small stores operated by local merchants side hustling for dollars trying unsuccessfully to win State Lands lottery tickets which gave them access to government land west of I-5 for development potential; today much better infrastructure exists enabling large commercial enterprises such as Amazon Web Services headquartered east off I-5 just southeast of Safeco Field have developed with ease contrary prior attempts at developing those lands only resulting in displacement or loss due expensive acquisition armies from outside forces seeking mineral wealth instead With growth came political instability especially due to competing claims – primarily from farmers - over watershed resources including water supplies needed for farming irrigation while people selling alcohol parallel prohibition efforts resulted frictions among social classes exacerbated by lack educational opportunities available particularly among lower economic classes having difficulty getting good jobs that didn't require College education either leading some young men into crime further exacerbating social disharmony Despite these problemsresidential areas continued expanding with annexation/coastal developments such as Northshore Village taking place adjacent SW shoreline beginning about 1915 followed shortly thereafter by Southshore Village taking place adjacent NW shoreline beginning about 1930 creating ever larger contiguous communities until eventually large enough populations generated enough political power relative thereto compelling officials even then towards restraint Eventually comprehensive zoning ordinances were enacted setting boundaries on future annexations which restrictions later did away with altogether making Issaquah one continuous town save portions extending out into unincorporated areas forming arterial streets grid style thereby preserving its rural character remains unchanged despite suburban sprawl throughout major metropolitan area

Issaquah is a town in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 9,012 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. In 1847, John C. Frémont and his party of wagon drivers set out fromOregon Springs on their journey to visit the Rocky Mountains. On July 4th they reached the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers and camped there for two nights before continuing on their way. The first permanent settlement in what is now Issaquah was made by fur trappers in 1853. The town was named after Captain George Issac who had led a group of pioneers westward from Missouri in 1848-49 as part of a survey party that established Umatilla River as the boundary between Oregon and Washington Counties. Captain Issac's detachment arrived at the present site ofIssaquah on December 5th, 1853; it was here that he erected a frame cabin known today as "Captain Issac's Cabin" which still stands at 133 N Broadway Ave., near where Interstate 5 crosses over to Oregon side of town square. The first post office inIssaquah was established on November 13th, 1860; it operated under the name "Cascade." A store built by Elisha Stevens opened its doors in 1865 just east of present day Third Avenue; it burned down within months due to arson by local residents working against petit larceny laws then current in California at that time. A second store built by Stevens reopened shortly thereafter with mail service but continued to be looted until May 20th 1870 when postal authorities destroyed all but one building including both stores while keeping only one mailbox open for local residents to pick up mail inside those buildings which were not being used because they were too unsafe orConstitutionally protected private property rights had been violated thereby creating an unconstitutional monopoly! Post Office Directory (1870) shows 2 businesses - Stevens Store & Hotel & First National Bank - occupying same space as 3rd Ave./Avenue since 1865! In 1870 Mt Pleasant Lumber Co organized with about 25 acres located southwest corner 3rd Ave./Avenue now occupied by I-5 Motorway and north end next to old Spokane water tower
