Issaquah is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 41,531 at the 2010 census. Issaquah is the county seat of King County and home to many of the largest employers in the area: Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, and Kaiser Permanente. The city is located on Puget Sound and around Lake Union. The name "Issaquah" is from the Yakama word issa-kuh (meaning 'island'). In 1851 John Cowlings built a small log cabin on what is now 23rd Avenue South in Issaquah after purchasing land east of present day Lake Union from Chief Seattle. He named his new town Issaquah after his daughter Isabella Cowlings; her father had also named his previous home Edgewood near Mount Vernon on Puget Sound. In 1861 Isaac Stevens founded Stevens Landing on Issaquah Creek as a landing for White emigrants seeking to reach Oregon via steamboats running between here and Williamstown on the lower Columbia River. The first post office opened in 1862 with three clerks serving 11 days each week; it was moved to its current location in 1865 when Postmaster General James K. Polk established an office at Seattle's Capitol Hill headquarters. By 1870 Issaquah had over 100 residents and boasted two churches – First Baptist Church (founded 1867) and Assemblies of God Church (1868). However, by 1880 only five residents lived in Issaquah proper while 30 people lived off shore along the creek or nearby lakeside homes dating back to pioneer times During World War II Japanese Americans living near Bellevue were rounded up by U.S.? Army troops known as Army Roundups during 1942-1945 which led to various protests against this treatment both inside and outside of Washington state including significantly larger protests taking place within King County than anywhere else in our state..

It was incorporated as a city on February 15, 1889. Issaquah is located on the east bank of the Snoqualmie River, about south of Seattle and north of Tacoma. The river forms the eastern border of Issaquah City Park. The name Issaquah comes from the Yakima language word issa'ka meaning "riverbank." The first European settlers in what is now Issaquah were men from Seattle and Snohomish County who arrived via stagecoach in 1864. They built a log cabin and named it Fort Alexander (named for General James A. Garfield). In 1868 they founded Olympia which became their main town after they moved their business to that location. In 1872 they established Tacoma which became their main town again when they moved their business to that location. In 1888 Issaquah incorporation occurred with Menlo Park being added to the city on February 15th following a referendum vote by residents there over whether or not to become an independent city separate from Menlo Park due to differences in size and growth potential between those two municipalities despite sharing some essential components such as water supplies, schools, fire protection services etcetera
Issaquah was founded in 1792 as the site of an Indian trading post. In 1851, it became a city and was renamed after Moses Issaquah, the first white settler. In 1907, Issaquah was annexed by Seattle and became part of that city's boundaries.
