Ferndale, Washington is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 26,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County. Ferndale was founded in 1887 by Danish immigrants and began to grow as a lumber town. In 1932, Ferndale became an incorporated city and it has since become one of the most affluent cities in King County. Ferndale's history can be traced back to 1887 when Danish immigrants named Otto and Jensgaard started a lumber mill in what is now Ferndale. The town grew quickly due to its location on the Columbia River between Seattle and Tacoma and its access to timber resources. In 1932, Ferndale became an incorporated city under the name "Ferndale." In recent years, Ferndale has made significant contributions to American culture through its involvement in music festivals such as Lollapalooza and Sasquatch! Music Festival; its support for renewable energy; and its role as a cultural center for both the Puget Sound region and Northwest America. The ferris wheel that currently sits on Center Street nears its 100th birthday this year - celebrating everything from being built originally as part of a carnival game show called The Great Western World which still takes place annually at Centerville Park (an adjacent park) up until today; all while being ridden for over 50 years! What street would feel incomplete without mention of pioneer Winifred Ostergren? Or Kirtland Ayer resident Edwin Saltzman who developed Waffle House fame on Third Avenue NW? The population of Ferndale was 3,856 at the 2010 census. The history of Ferndale begins with the Kitaps and Wenatchees who first settled there in 1871. The kitaps were a nomadic tribe that hunted and gathered food along the Puget Sound shoreline. In 1876, George Vancouver discovered Puget Sound and began to explore what lay beyond his previous discoveries in North America. He named one of his vessels after the local tribe – HMS Discovery (1876). This new discovery led to more settlers coming to ferndale due to their efforts for exploration and trade opportunities along both coasts of North America. On October 4, 1907, Ferndale became the municipality which included all of present-day King County when it was annexed from Seattle by King County on December 1, 1907. At that time it had a population of 2,711 people living in 7 Blocks: Central Park Blocks 1-5; First Hill Blocks 6-10; Second Hill Blocks 11-15; Third Hill Blocks 16-20; Northwest Side Blocks 21 & 22; South Side Blocks 23 & 24; EastsideBlocks 25 & 26; Ferry Terminal Block 27 & 28 and Harbor Extension Block 29 & 30 which now make up part of DowntownFerndale area today

After losing its status as an incorporated community in 1978 due to budget cuts within city government, Ferndale reinvented itself as a bedroom community for Seattleites during the 1990s with growth in retail businesses such as Safeway and Microsoft Office supply stores along with new housing developments near Interstate 5 freeway exit 114B which opened up space for nine years ago offering high-density living options close to transportation hubs like Seattle Center or Snohomish County Stadiums while still preserving much of its character from when it was an unincorporated community back when ferndale was simply called Jamesferndalesville after our founder JAMES FERNDALE who also started this place back when some dude named JOHN DID THIS BUSINESS IN A ROOM ON OUR KEARNY AVENUE BACK THEN

Ferndale's history began with settler Marcus Whitman and his family moving from Portsmouth to ferndale in 1854. The community was founded as a small farmstead near what is now First Avenue Northeast and University Street Northwest in 1859 by John Hargrave and others looking to improve their chances of success beyond their rural homespun surroundings. The post office at Ferndale was established in 1859, and remained open until it closed on November 15, 1930. The town first gained notoriety when J.B Priestly published an article about life in the region for "The Atlantic Monthly" in 1865; this article increased development around First Avenue Northeast and University Street Northwest as people started coming to learn more about Puget Sound." In 1886, local businessmen organized a group that named themselves the "Ferndale Improvement Association" to promote industrial development within the limits of the present-day city of Seattle; this group became known as "the Ferndale League". In 1895, members of the league formed a municipal government with its own mayor and council which helped make Ferndale one of Seattle's most vibrant communities during its early years." During World War II, much activity took place within downtown Ferndale due to military production plants located there such as Boeing Airplane Company Headquarters (later Boeing Co.), Shipbuilding Division No. 3 (now Hansen Engineering), Western Electric Laboratories (WEL), and other companies associated with war production." In 1951, after many years of growth without any major developments,"the city fathers decided that it would be better if Goucher Park were annexed into downtown for public use,"thus setting off another period where downtown streets were widened and new businesses surface along First Avenue Northeast." This coincided with high-density housing construction nearby which spilled over into Ferndalese neighborhoods becoming less developed while large commercial buildings continued to be built on arterial streets throughout this time." At some point during this time period there also emerged rumors that some developers had been attempting to buy or lease control of all or portions of Goucher Park so they could redevelop it into large scale projects instead of using it for public use."" By 1990s however these rumors had become reality as several big box stores had moved into Goucher Park while smaller businesses moved out although some are still active today."
