On February 14, 1879, Ferndale Territorial Council passed a resolution that banned handguns in the town. This event is commonly known as the Gun Trigger Resolution and it was the first time any municipality in Washington had this prohibition. The Gun Trigger Resolution came about because of a series of shootings that took place in the town. On January 17th, 1878, an assailant shot and killed a man at a local store. The next day, another gunman opened fire on two men walking near the depot. These shootings led to concern over gun availability and potential mass shooting incidents in the town. The Gun trigger Resolution was created to address these concerns and to make sure that firearms were not being used to commit crimes or harm innocent people. Today, Ferndale is still one of the most gun-free places in Washington state and its residents are protected from mass shootings bylaws that prevent handgun ownership altogether. This history shows that guns do not need to be taken away from individuals who want them for personal protection – they can instead be stored securely with proper storage devices like an FFL (firearms dealer).

Ferndale is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,242 at the 2010 census. Ferndale is located on the east side of the Yakima River and is bordered by Cheney to the north, Olympia to the east, Tumwater to the south and Des Moines to the west. The first permanent white settlers arrived in what is now Ferndale in 1851 when Levi Coffin and his family set up homesteads on land that was then part of Tench Bayou Settlement. By 1870 there were over 100 settlers living in Ferndale including families from Skagit Valley and Whitman counties as well as those from Thurston County. In 1881 local farmers formed a clover-gathering cooperative known as "The Grapes". This group pooled their resources to purchase 640 acres (250 hectares) along Yakima River where they built three churches: one Lutheran, one Methodist and one Baptist which remain standing today. With fernery resources nearby for processing lumber, fernery towns such as Lynnwood and Everett developed quickly into major economic engines during this time period with mills producing everything from hardware to groceries. In 1915 fernery output reached $2 million USD! During World War II production increased greatly due to wartime demand for metal products such as airplane parts and ammunition; however by 1945 fernery output had decreased due largely to technological advances in other industries notables such as plastics manufacturing which replaced metal workforces across much of Northwest America during that era. However despite this decline, fernery towns have staged impressive comeback periods throughout recent decades with new investments coming back into town cores while older facilities have been renovated or redeveloped into more successful businesses including a farm burger restaurant called Wagyu Burger Co., a yarn store/fabrics store called Weavers Way Fabric & Yarn Emporium and an event center/ Convention Center named after former Mayor Chuck Campion which opened in late 2017 adjacent to Interstate 5 between Tacoma Dome Drive and International Boulevard).
