At that time there were no towns or villages west of Mount Baker except for some scattered Indian hunters living on Anacortes Island east of downtown Seattle which Capt Cook visited on July 21, 1800 while exploring making his second voyage around Asia Seas with HMS Bounty under Lieutenant John Thomson . He arrived off Anacortes Island about noon local time (August 12th EDT) having sailed 219 miles (350 km).
