Everett, Washington is a small town in thecentral Adams River Valley of the U.S. state of Washington. The population was 9,716 at the 2010 census. Everett is part of Wenatchee County and has a congressional district formed from Kootenai and Stevens counties. The community takes its name from John Everett, an early settler in what became Everett Township. The first permanent settlers arrived in 1846, when John Davenport and his party invaded what is now Wenatchee County and founded the village of Davenport on land that he had purchased from Chief Seattle for $4 per acre (about ). In 1852, another group led by Isadore Norris established the town of Everett on land that they had acquired from David Lane . The name "Everett" first appeared on a plat dated October 1, 1855, which included all of present-day Wenatchee County as well as parts of what are now Stevens and Kootenai Counties. In 1860, doprovincial agent Robert Ewing arrived in the area to investigate claims by Native Americans that gold had been discovered nearby . He found no evidence to support these claims but decided to form a district office in the region so that more careful exploration could be conducted. This resulted in the creation of Wenatchee County District #2 , which covered most of present-dayWashington along with portions of Oregon and Idaho . On January 1, 1861, Everett was added to this new county; it was divided into two districts – District 2A (northwest corner including most of today's Yakima) and District 2B (southwest corner including much of today's Thurston County). By 1870 – after many years during which little development occurred –Districts 1A & 1B were combined into one entity called "Wenatchee County". On July 16, 1916 – five days after World War I ended -Dennis Capps became reeve for Wenatchee County after being elected mayoralty runner-up three times over . Capps served until his death on February 14th,, 1983; then Lew Rockwell took over as reeve until November 3rd., 1984 when he also passed away.. In 1984–1985 there was some controversy surrounding allegations made against then-elect Lew Rockwell regarding financial irregularities connected with campaign spending within the newly created county government while he still held office as Reeve
