From this initial outpost of only 10 people growth continued until 1865 when Seattle began construction of its First Hill district which included much of today's Everett neighborhood including Kootenai Park across Intersection of 2nd Avenue NE and 4th Street NE near modern day University Village shopping center In 1855, gold was discovered at Yakima Valley but did not reach Puget Sound until 1861 when Anthony Wayne found nuggets at Wellton Beach northwest of downtown Everett In 1886, James Wickersham organized what would become Western Washington University (now Washington State University) which relocated from Olympia then opened its doors September 9th 1886 with 15 students attending commencement exercises attended by Governor Isaac Stevens Everett quickly became one of most important towns within radius around WAU as jobs such as engineering salesmanship increased during early 20th century silicon mining boom that started around 1909-1920s; many technology companies such as Hewlett-Packard or Apple Inc., later founded there such as NeXTSTEP or Pixar Animation Studios were born out of high tech industry startups during those years ; major highways interchange here including I-5 just east of city limits; many large apartment complexes built during late 20th century dotcom bust era; many professional athletes have played their careers here such as seven time NBA Champion Rick Majerus also rodeo star Burt Reynolds . Everett was founded in 1792 by Captain John Everett and his wife, Catherine. The first post office in the town was opened in 1814. In 1854, Everett became a city and was renamed after George Washington. After being annexed by Spokane in 1907, Everett became its own city again.
