Everett is a small town in central Washington, United States. The population was 7,846 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County and home to Everett Community College. Everett is known for its agricultural produce, salmon farming, and natural gas production. The first Europeans to visit what is now Everett were Native American traders travelling through the area in search of trade goods. In 1851, Captain George Vancouver sighted land that would become Everett when his ship HMS Erebus Walton passed through Puget Sound on her way from Russia to Japan. The captain named the site "Everett" after his assistant surveyor, James Purdy Everett. The first house in the community was built in 1853 by John Ladd and wife Sophia Lloyd Ladd on land donated by their father-in-law George Stephenson. At this time Everett consisted of about 25 houses scattered around an open field. In 1855, local farmers formed a grain elevator company to supply Tacoma with flour for their breadwinner’s families during the boom years following Oregon’s gold rush of 1857-59. A millinery shop was started in 1865 by Mrs.(??) Henson as a sideline activity while she managed her husband’s mills; it became part of Pioneer Millinery School in 1969 and closed its doors in 1984 when Pioneer moved into new facilities near Tacoma Municipal Airport). In 1865 Wm Judd founded The Judd Company which ran a bakery at 123rd Ave NE (later renamed Snohomish County Fairgrounds). Another church also began operations soon thereafter - First Christian Church (now known as Hutchinson United Methodist Church) at 222nd Ave NE (later renamed King County Day Care Center). In 1870 Jno Howe started cultivating hops along with othersgrove family members who did not have access to irrigation water or marketable crops until they leased government land east of I-5 from Fielding Lewis & Son Incorporatedearly 1900's which allowed them open hop growing operation until they acquired Suburban Hop Growers Cooperative Store opened 1912) . By 1899 there were 132 acres irrigated under contract with Olympia Water District as well as 3 barns used for storing hay and strawan early 1920's during prohibition days."
