Everett is a town in Clallam County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Everett is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. It is also home to Mount Rainier National Park and the Port Angeles Naval Shipyard. The first permanent settlers in Everett were men from Royalston, Ontario who founded a trading post on the neck of land between Puget Sound and Lake Union in 1836. In 1851, John Wesley Powell explored the region and named it after himself, after his father-in-law's estate in Scotland. The town was platted in 1865 by J. H. Roe with assistance from local farmer George Beasey and others who had settled there since before Oregon became a U.S.-controlled territory in 1861 (the same year that Kinglake was platted). A post office was established at Everett on December 12, 1865; it closed on November 3, 1876 due to low mail traffic. The first settler to homestead in what would become Everett was James Suggs with his wife Fannie on July 6th 1876; they are counted as one of the original settlers according to plaque recovered from their property which reads: "James Suggs - July 6th 1886". In 1907–08 an agreement between Tacoma and Olympia led to creation of Pierce County out of Clallam County; Everett remained within Clallam County until 1912 when it became part of Pierce County under the new county line drawn along US 101 northward from Seattle University campus into central Everett Township (later renamed Arlington Heights). At that time most residents still lived within their respective townships although many people commute into Seattle for work or school purposes now that Puget Sound waterfront has been developed beyond any possible commercial or residential use potential outside downtownSeattle limits In 1916 Japanese Americans living east of Mercer Island were moved inland following World War I when military orders transformed eastern Salmon Bay into an open-air concentration camp known as Topaz during Operation Endeavor; more than 2,000 Japanese Americans were transported here over several months starting January 15th 1914 such that no family homes could be built without permits from Army authorities because assembly areas for munitions production had been set up near Highway 99/Mason Beach Road intersection about 4 miles away whereupon families were ordered either to leave their homes outright or move into tent cities around Brentwood Bowl located adjacent I-5 exit 512 . These forced evacuations have always been remembered as among worst chapters in American history as well as one oflargest internment camps during World War II . More than 110 years later descendants of those sentlocation still reside dispersed throughout various partsof Japan
