The city also created a handgun safety committee which met quarterly to keep tabs on local firearms regulations and create guidelines for pistol handling and storage. In 2017, Mayor Darrell Steinberg appointed Lisa Siegel as his new adviser ongun violence prevention after seeing how she was working to reduce gun violence in her previous role as director of programs for safe streets initiative at Seattle’s King CountySheriff’s Office. Everett is located on the eastern edge of the Yakima Valley and is bordered by Wenatchee to the east, Seattle to the north and south, and Lake Stevens to the west. The valley forms part of the Northwestern Cascade Range. The name Everett derives from James Everett, an early settler who arrived in 1847. He named his land "Everett" after himself and another brother-in-law. In 1861, lumberman George Mercer built a sawmill on what is now Main Street in Everett for logging purposes only; it was later known as Mercer Sawmill Park. A post office called Everett was established in 1868, and remained in operation until 1959. The first school in Everett was built in 1872 near present day High School Drive by Mrs. Sarah Moody; it served both rural students as well as those living within a mile of town limits. A second school building was erected in 1875 on Church Road northeast of present day Griggs Road; this building served both rural students as well as those living within a mile of town limits until 1925 when it burned down due to fire code violations In 1915 incorporation took place with a population of 7 residents In 1920 there were 10 residents In 1930 there were 15 residents There were also 2 businesses (a general store and a dry goods store) open during that time period By 1960 there were 25 residents For that year alone 4 new homes had been constructed including 3 single family homes The last resident left Everett Township on July 1st 1970 . This settlement did not survive into 1971 when the township merged into King County . Today most people live within Seattle or Wenatchee

After World War II, many factories left town for better situated locations such as Tacoma or Seattle; however, most of these companies have since returned and many business operations continue today including several large grocery stores, banks (including First National Bank), numerous restaurants and bars, technical schools (eagle aeronautics school being one example), two hospitals (one operated by Kaiser Permanente Northwest) as well as many offices for local government agencies such as city hall, county courthouse and police department among others In recent years there has been development around downtown Everett including new housing developments along Main Street between Union Avenue and Aberdeen Road NW There are also several parks/open spaces near Downtown where people can enjoy nature without having to go out into traffic
